Kim Yoo Jung Remains Calm Amidst Ji Chang Wook's Annoyance in "Backstreet Rookie" Teaser

Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung look annoyed by each other's presence in their first teaser for their new drama, "Backstreet Rookie." The characters look young and adorable as they lead the viewers to a new rom-com series set to air on June 12.

The drama is a remake of the hit webtoon series "Convenience Store Saet Byul." It revolves around a small business store owner and his newly hired part-time employee. And as the story progresses, love develops in a fusion of funny and romantic ways.

This most-awaited duo is Choi Gae Hyun, played by actor Ji Chang Wook as the store owner, and Jung Saet Byul, played by actress Kim Yoo Jung as the employee. The relationship won't start smoothly as one invades the world of what he protects and secured from distractions.

The series will be helmed by director Lee Myung Woo, and will mark as the return of screenwriter Son Geun Joo, who created "My Sweet Family." The video teaser released shows Ji Chang Wook enjoying his nap, and suddenly, he was abruptly woken up by the pretty Kim Yoo Jung barging inside his shop.

The lead actors with other cast members gathered on May 8 for their first script reading. The event provided a good glimpse of how versatile the actors are while they come to life each character. Ji Chang Wook, in character, shows the gawky persona and gets off guard every time Kim Yoo Jung comes to work with her striking persona.

Kim Yoo Jung is no amateur in the industry. She started at the age of four and became one of the sought-after child actresses in her time. She already appeared in 15 movies and 13 TV drama series. She also grew to do teenage roles while enjoying her adolescent years.

The actress, however, slowed down in her appearances last 2018 when she was diagnosed with dysfunctions of the thyroid gland. She made one drama series from 2018 and 2019 as she focused on her health.

Apart from his outstanding acting skills and good looks, Ji Chang Wook has talent in singing as well, and it makes him more charming. He started building his career as a musical artist, appearing in various theaters. Acting came to reality when he began to accept minor roles in "You Stole My Heart," a TV series that leads to more projects. His debut was in 2008 in the movie "Sleeping Beauty."

"Backstreet Rookie" is set to premiere on June 12 at 10 p.m. KST and will air every Friday and Saturday, replacing "The King: Eternal Monarch" slot.
