Lee Ji Ah has been married so she knows how difficult it can be.
“I think it’s hard. We need to understand and care for each other,” she said. “There needs to be give and take between both parties. One person should not do all the giving. I think a married couple should always understand and cherish each other."
That’s the hard-won understanding that she brings to her character in the weekend drama “The Woman Who Marries Three Times.”
In the drama, Lee plays Oh Eun Soo, a woman who failed at her first marriage and is about to embark on her second. In real life Lee Ji Ah was secretly married to k-pop idol Seo Taiji for nine years. The marriage only became public knowledge after their divorce.
When she was single again Lee Ji Ah made her acting debut in “The Legend” in 2007. After that she appeared in "Beethoven Virus" and "Athena: Goddess of War."
One of the posters for the drama shows Lee Ji Ah sitting between her ex-husband and the man who will be her new husband. Her ex-husband looks desperate. Even though her new husband embraces her, Lee Ji Ah looks distant. And the poster features a few more characters just to complicate things. That’s because the drama will not only explore the way marrying and remarrying affects the life of Oh Eun Soo but how it affects her family.
At the drama press conference she was asked how she felt when people bought up her marriage to Seo Taiji. Given the subject matter of her new drama, it was inevitable that reporters would ask.
“I don’t have anything to hide,” said the actress. “I was so thankful because people seemed really understanding and never made me feel awkward. I’m just so at peace now.”
Actress Um Ji Won, who appeared in "The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry," will play her sister, Oh Hyun Soo, a pet product designer. Song Chang Eui plays Jung Tae Won, Eun Soo's ex-husband. The actor appeared in "The Great Seer," "A Thousand Days Promise" and "Heartstrings." Also appearing in the drama is Ha Seok Jin, who played Son Ye Jin's spouse in the melodrama "Shark."
At the drama press conference, Lee also said that she very much wanted to work with the drama’s writer Kim Su Hyun. The new views of marriage expressed in the drama were appealing.
“It’s an honor for an actress to star in Kim Su Hyun’s work, but it does add a lot of pressure,” said Lee.
The drama will air on November 9. Check out the trailer which features the beautiful Lee Ji Ah in a wedding dress.
