The tvN legal drama, celebrated for its real-life lawyers' involvement as well as its slice-of-life narrative, has been airing 12 episodes in the last three months.

By the last episode, every member of the Seocho-dong unit has gone off in a different direction.

Kang You Seok's Cho Chang Won, who's been constantly belittled by his superior, resigns his second-in-command job at Junggong Law Firm — not to enter into his father's company, but to serve as a prosecutor he can be proud of.

Ryu Hye Young's Bae Mun Jeong, rather than moving to become an in-house counsel, chooses to come back to work as a Kyungmin Law Firm employee after maternity leave, ready to confront her cold boss. She is still the sole one at the same firm, thanks to her nurse husband.

Im Seong Jae's Ha Sang Gi quits to fund the studies of a young orphan. His plot turns romantic when his manager, who has a crush on him, becomes his partner, and a relationship develops between a PhD student and an owner of a law firm.

Meanwhile, Lee Jong Suk's Ahn Ju Hyeong and Moon Ga Young's Kang Hui Ji stay together, rallying behind each other's goals.

He departs after 10 years as an associate to take on more emotionally challenging cases, while she becomes a public defender. The two continue in touch with subtle lunches and words of encouragement.

The series ends with all five friends together for a cozy reunion in their Seocho-dong neighborhood, their own lives filled with life experience.

With each of their character arcs tidily wrapped up, a second season of Law and the City seems unlikely — although viewers report they'd love to have it back.
