“18 Again” Actor Lee Do Hyun Reveals The Making of The Iconic Falling Moment With Co-Star Lee Mi Do
If you watch the new JTBC romantic drama "18 Again", then surely, there are scenes that you might find memorable like the iconic and sweet scene where Ae Rin, portrayed by Lee Mi Do, slips dramatically in the lobby and of course, as expected, she is caught by her handsome hero Woo Young, played by Lee Do Hyun.
But if you aren't familiar with this Korean drama, let's give you first a refresher with its synopsis. "18 Again" revolves its story around the married couple Jung Da Jung (Kim Ha Neul) and 37-year-old Hong Dae Young (Yoon Sang Hyun). The couple is blessed with 18-year-old son and daughter.
Jung Da Jung is a kind and warm-hearted woman who works as a rookie announcer. However she becomes tired and fed up with her married life, most especially with her husband and she just can't take it any longer.
Unfortunately, Hong Dae Young got fired from his job and he felt like his very own family was discriminating against him. With his life all messed up, Jung Da Jung decided to file a divorce from her husband and hands him divorce papers.
Then one day, Hong Dae Young views himself as a failure and an ordinary jobless middle-aged man with no future. He regrets his life and he hates the things that happened to him. At this very down moment of him, his body slowly changes into that of an 18-year-old year old person. However, his mind stays the same as his 37-year-old self.
Being physically back into his teenage body, Hong Dae Young was an exceptional basketball player and also a famous guy in school. And since his appearance changed into a younger version, he changes his name to Ko Woo Young and begins to live a new life.
Now let's go back to the behind-the-scenes footage released, where Lee Do Hyun hilariously divulged the deep secret of the dramas production where he had to go from 0 to 100 in an instant!
First, a sneak peek at how dramas film their iconic falling scenes! The actor is propped on a chair for their close up shots and staffs are assigned to assist and hold them up. It's was almost perfect but the director noticed that there is something lacking in the scene and decided to take the matter into his own hands.
Lee Do Hyun is as perfect as he can be in the scene. However, it was missing the quintessential, heart-fluttering veins running down a guy's arm! Such a small detail but can change the scene dramatically. What the staff did was they squeezing his arm as tight as they can. This is how they could create veins in the hand, one has to block off circulation in the upper arm.
Finally! Their effort paid off and was able to create the veins through the use of a rubber band on his arm, hidden from the viewer's visions. When the veins were made, Lee Do Hyun proudly showed them off to the camera, declaring he was manly as he can be!
