Blackpink Jisoo’s Upcoming Drama Is Stirring Up Controversy As It Gets Compared With CLOY

It was previously confirmed that BLACKPINK's Jisoo would be starring in her first-ever K-drama lead role in 'Snowdrop' alongside One Spring Night's Jung Hae In.

Currently, the 2021 JTBC series is already causing some controversy. 'Snowdrop' is getting some comparisons to the hit drama series 'Crash Landing on You' before it's even broadcasted. This drama is based on an escaped North Korean political prisoner's real-life memoir in the year 1987. This is a series set in the past that will mix all the emotion of a touching university love story blended with a thrill of mystery and action.

Jung Hae In, who is known for his roles in the hit dramas Something in the Rain and One Spring Night, will portray Im Soo Ho, a Korean who was raised in Germany who is hiding a deep secret. He is a charismatic and mysterious man. Im Soo Ho is a graduate from a prestigious university who suddenly appears in the middle of the night, all covered in blood in a female dormitory at Hosoo Women's University.

On the other hand, BLACKPINK Jisoo is said to portray the character of Eun Young Cho, the smart and cheerful student. She is in the first grade of Hosoo Women's University, majoring in English literature. On that night, Eun Young Cho was the girl who discovered Im Soo Ho, all covered in blood. She treats his wounds and hides his presence from the dormitory mistress and staff.

Though the drama has yet to be aired, it has already caused some controversy. Since the synopsis of Snowdrop is based on the real-life memoirs of a man who escaped from a North Korean political prison camp set in 1987. Despite encountering hardships from tear gas explosions, the male lead could escape and landed on a female college dormitory with injuries. A female student helps him, and both characters eventually fell in love. However, the man turned out to be an armed spy and was forced to choose between his mission or the woman he truly loves.

The general public feels worried that the upcoming drama's plot might idealize protests because of the complicated political situation with North Korea. 'Snowdrop' is being compared to the hit drama 'Crash Landing On You,' which also received a lot of criticism for romanticizing North Korea.

JTBC has yet to address this controversy and seems to be going on as planned for the series. So rest assured that Jisoo fans will be able to witness her debut as a leading actress with no problems.

Snowdrop will be helmed by Director Jo Hyun-Tak and penned by screenwriter Yoo Hyun-Mi. The mentioned team has previously worked together in the 2018 JTBC drama series "SKY Castle" alongside its cast, actresses Kim Hye-Yoon & Yoon Se-Ah.
