Ji Chang Wook to Star in the New Netflix Drama ‘Annarasumanara’
The prominent actor Ji Chang Wook is once again a busy bee, for he is set to appear in a new Netflix series!
Even before the actor's new drama "City Couple's Way of Love" air on Dec 08 (2020), the 33-year-old star is already in talks to play a new role for a Netflix series. According to a report on Dec 01, Ji Chang Wook was recommended to play the main character of "Annarasumanara," the magician Lee Eul. He is a mysterious person living in an abandoned amusement park.
He is a protagonist who vigorously asks meaningful questions to strangers such as, "Do you believe in magic?"
"Annarasumanara" is the Korean equivalent phrase of Abracadabra. The story is based on the famous webtoon of the same title written by Ha iI Kwon. It was registered in Naver's webtoon in the year 2010, a drama that talks about a girl who met an immature magician.
The story is about a high school girl named Yun Ai who has lost her dream of becoming a magician after her parents left them. Since then, she had lived alone with her dongsaeng (little sister). She also worked different part-time jobs while studying to support their needs.
One day, when she was holding her paycheck, it was blown away by the wind, so she started running to chase it. That is when she met the magician who was known in their neighborhood as insane and dangerous. Yun Ai used to believe it and often told herself that she should not be involved with him.
The story's genre is melancholic and nostalgic, as it shows sad experiences from the characters' childhood days. The problems present in the story are just like the issues we are experiencing today - poverty, identity crisis, social stereotype, and prejudice - that we can't avoid.
After his military service last year, Ji Chang Wook already received a lot of projects and has been continuously working. He just finished his SBS' comedy drama "Backstreet Rookie" with actress Kim Yoo Jung last August, and started to shoot again for a new drama "City Couple's Way of Love" with actress Kim Ji Won as his on screen partner, which is scheduled to premiere its first episode on Dec 08, and can be watch every Tuesday and Friday thru Kakao TV (5 pm KST) and Netflix (7 pm KST).
On the other hand, Netflix's original series "Annarasumanara" is rumored to be directed by Kim Sung Yoon, who will be returning after a hiatus. He was known for his works in KBS2's "Gourmi Green Moonlight" and the hit Korean drama "Itaewon Class" that is also based on a webtoon series.
The updates regarding the cast and the details about the upcoming Netflix series is yet to be confirmed and will be announced soon to the public.
