Netflix Confirms Most of Its International Subscribers Like to Watch the Thrilling Series ‘Sweet Home’

On Jan. 20, Netflix already released its fourth quarter 2020 results, confirming that most of their international subscribers watched and highly anticipated Korea's original series "Sweet Home." It received a massive popularity worldwide, which resulted in the international streaming site having a record-breaking 200 million subscribers all across the globe, and 22 million of those subscribers are the viewers of the thrilling drama.

Netflix's paid subscription has increased by about 8.5 million, and most of them are all staying home due to the pandemic. APAC (Asia Pacific) has the largest subscribers in Netflix, followed by EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa), which achieved a net increase of 14.9 million paid subscriptions households, with a net increase of 9.3 million in the last quarter.

In addition, Netflix is effectively promoting original content outside the United States, and investing in the Korean market especially for the unexpected rise of the Korean content that is receiving a lot of recognition in the international audience, proving that it is continuously expanding.

The success of Korean content once again showed through the series "Sweet Home." Korean creators were also recognized by their commendable masterpieces.

The series first aired on Dec. 18 last year (2020), and the first week after it has been released, it immediately garnered hot responses from local and overseas consumers, given that there were a lot of interesting things about the work. For these viewers, they said that having such a unique storyline made the series achieve this massive success: an ordinary person who turns into a monster and yet was able to express himself in a genuine way.

The intense visuals from the monsters and other graphics were also lauded by fans. Also, according to Netflix, in the first four weeks after the release of "Sweet Home," 22 million paid-subscriptions from different parts of the world chose and watched the thriller.

There were also amazing shows that gained good viewership, such as "Alice in Borderland," which had 18 million subscribers, "Selena" (25 million), and "Today's Christmas" (26 million).

"Sweet Home's" director Lee Eung Bok expressed his gratitude towards the good news, "I am very happy to know that the unique story of 'Sweet Home' has been loved by thousands of audiences all across the borders. It was challenging yet knowing that we will be bringing fresh content to people was already a success for us."

He also thanked Netflix and Studio Dragon for supporting them in doing the series, director Lee Eung Bok also gave his sincere gratitude towards all the actors and the production team for their efforts, adding, "I will try my best to produce more meaningful content for the future."

Netflix Korea's vice president for content Kim Min Young shared, "We are pleased to announce the news that more than 22 million paid subscribers to Netflix have enjoyed Korea's original series 'Sweet Home' created by Korean creators. Netflix, is an entertainment company that is committed in providing its customers with the best entertainment experience anytime and anywhere."

He also mentioned, "I am very grateful that Korean content especially 'Sweet Home' has provided something new for the world, a kind of show that was known in different parts of the world and broke the language barriers. Together, we will continue the journey of discovering and introducing more enjoyable content."
