"River Where the Moon Rises" is a remake of the classic Goguryeo folktale that retells the famous love story of two characters, Pyeonggang and On Dal.

Kim So Hyun stars as Pyeonggang, who was born a princess and raised as a warrior. She is a very ambitious woman who dreams of becoming the first-ever female leader of Goguryeo. She will do what it takes to achieve her goals. However, her plan changes when she meets the peace-loving man, On Dal. She plans to use On Dal's (Ji Soo) feelings to achieve her goals

On Dal's only desire is to live a peaceful and harmonious life. He is the exact opposite of the ambitious princess. The warrior princess eventually finds herself falling in love with the gentle On Dal.

On Dal, on the other hand, will be equally in love with the princess but will find himself forsaking his principles to keep his love safe. Forced to match both wits and strength against some of the most powerful people in Goguryeo, Pyeonggang's journey to hold power could very well cost her everything.
