'Our Beloved Summer' Writer Lee Na Eun Reveals Choi Woong's True Identity
"Our Beloved Summer," starring Choi Woo Sik and Kim Da Mi, follows the story of ex-lovers who are forced to meet once again to film a much awaited sequel to their high school documentary that went viral.
Writer Lee Na Eun revealed that she wrote the character of Choi Woong specifically with actor Choi Woo Sik in mind. She incorporated real-life details about the actor that are actually the inspiration for his character's personality traits in the hit series.
She said, "I once saw Choi Woo Sik in the variety show 'Summer Vacation' while I was preparing for Choi Woong's character. It helped me a lot [with creating the character]."

The writer even included Choi Woo Sik's insomnia to make the character more real. However, Lee Na Eun never dreamed that the actor would actually play the role in the drama.
"I wrote the drama while thinking about Choi Woo Sik and I had the chance to show him the script," Lee Na Eun said, "I never imagined I'd be able to cast him. He's a really great actor who gives life to every character he plays."

Moreover, the writer's romance journey also inspired the story of the drama. "I made a lot of mistakes [when I was younger]," Lee Na Eun shared, "I had a lot of regrets but I thought I'd give myself another chance through this drama."
The writer begins the drama with the ex-lovers reuniting. Lee Na Eun poured her regrets and unsaid feelings into the drama, which gives the two characters depth that will be essential to their growth.

The drama closes its curtains with Choi Woong and Kook Yeon Soo as a happy married couple, but Lee Na Eun revealed that she nearly went down the melancholic route for the ending!
Because of the writer's horrible dating experiences, she's now opposed to happily-ever-afters. But while writing the ending, Lee Na Eun wanted to give Woong and Yeon Soo, as well as the viewers who had suffered along, love and hope.
When asked about what kind of dramas she wants to write in the future, Lee Na Eun answered that she wants to write a drama with characters who have depth and their own colors.

"The key point of "Our Beloved Summer" is that it doesn't have a villain. Although you meet other people as you grow and get hurt by them, it's difficult to find characters who are one-dimensionally portrayed as just bad," the writer said.
"I'd like to keep my eyes for looking at people from different angles and perspectives, and not just one," Lee Na Eun concluded.
