Chu Young Woo and Baek Sung Chul talked about their working relationship with Red Velvet's Joy as the trio star in the rom-com K-drama "Once Upon a Small Town."
The 12-part episode series is the newest feel-good K-drama that follows the story of a city boy who temporarily moves to a town called Heedong after he receives an unexpected call from his grandfather.
Despite living in a different environment and struggling to adapt to a slow-paced life, the Seoul-based veterinary was welcomed by the enthusiastic and warm-hearted locals.
Chu Young Woo Opens Up About Preparation, Unforgettable Experience in 'Once Upon a Small Town'
As Chu Young Woo and Baek Sung Chul graced the latest issue of @star1 magazine, the male leads dished on their characters and experience filming "Once Upon a Small Town."
In the rom-com K-drama, Chu Young Woo took the role of Han Ji Yool, who works at a veterinary clinic in Seoul, while Baek Sung Chul portrays Lee Sang Hyun, Ahn Ja Young's best friend, played by Red Velvet's Joy.
During the interview, Chu Young Woo told the publication that he could really relate to his role and shared that he "gradually" adapted to his character during the production. He admitted that the new environment "scared" him, especially around the animals.
Moreover, Chu Young Woo also recalled his unusual experience with the farm animals.
"Little by little, I learned about animals and got used to them as I was trampled on by cows and bitten by the tail," he said, as obtained by a news portal.

Lastly, the actor also revealed that he "studied a lot" for his role and "met with veterinary students."

As the interview with @star1 magazine continues, the duo was asked about their chemistry with Red Velvet's Joy.
Chu Young Woo says "It was really great" working along with the singer-actress and mentioned that she was so helpful on set.
The actor shared that the Red Velvet member assisted him a lot with romantic acting, adding "when I was physically exhausted or struggling, she would help me by becoming my mental coach."
Moreover, he described the 26-year-old star as his "older sister" on the set.
The same goes for Baek Sung Chul who pointed out that his co-stars made him feel comfortable during the production, especially when he is feeling a bit shy around new people.
As for the female lead, he said that he "particularly developed a sort of camaraderie with [Joy] while filming together in the countryside" amid the humid weather.
In "Once Upon a Small Town" Red Velvet's Joy plays the cheerful local officer named Ahn Ja Young, who often extends her help to her fellow villagers.
She is also the love interest of city boy Han Ji Yul and her childhood friend Lee Sang Hyun.
"Once Upon a Small Town" episode 3 is set to air on September 7 via Kakao TV and Netflix.
