Go Kyung Pyo Reveals Major Reason For Accepting the Psychopath Killer Role in ‘Connect’

Go Kyung Pyo breaks away from his boy-next-door image as he transforms into a psychopath killer in "Connect."

Directed by the renowned Japanese filmmaker Miike Takashi, the Disney+ series is based on the webtoon of the same name, which follows the mysterious story of ha Dong Soo, played by Jung Hae In, who lives with an immortal ability known as "connect."

After being kidnapped by organ hunters, his eye was transplanted to a serial killer named Oh Jin Seop.

Apart from Jung Hae In and Go Kyung Pyo, joining as lead stars is Kim Hye Joon from "Kingdom" and Kim Roe Ha as Detective Choi Do Hoon, who is on the hunt to find the killer who has been causing chaos and distress around the city.

Following the release of Disney+ series' "Connect," Go Kyung Pyo spoke about the reason to play the villain role.

The 32-year-old actor graced Harper's Bazaar Korea magazine shoot, flaunting his stunning visuals as he talked about his experience filming the series and playing the antagonist.

Go Kyung Pyo's role in "Connect" is quite different from his previous characters but the actor managed to deliver an amazing portrayal of a psychopath murderer.

During his interview with the publication, he was asked what prompted him to headline the series playing the villain role. For him, it was something new to him and a type of character that he hadn't played before.

"I was drawn to the idea of working with amazing people like director Takashi Miike and actors Jung Hae In and Kim Hye Joon," he explained, adding that "there was no reason" for him to decline the offer.

How Go Kyung Pyo Played Villain in 'Connect'

Since it was his first time playing the psychopath killer role, he mentioned that he wanted to "avoid cliché portrayals [of the character] as much as possible" and acted like Oh Jin Seob, "whose thought process is entirely different from ordinary people."

Moreover, the actor described the antagonist as not just a narcissist who enjoys seeing his victims suffer but satisfaction that some people get from "eating food when you're hungry or drinking water when you're thirsty."

"Connect" is Go Kyung Pyo's follow-up project after the rom-com series "Love in Contract."

He proved his versatility by jumping from the lowkey hopeless romantic person who fell in love with Park Min Young to a serial killer in the Disney+ series.

It can be recalled that Go Kyung Pyo made viewers swoon with his character as the cold and emotionless judge Jung Ji Ho who hired Choi Sang Eun (Park Min Young) to be his wife every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Apart from "Love in Contract" and "Connect," Go Kyung Pyo also appeared in the blockbuster comedy movie "6/45" playing one of the South Korean soldiers along with co-stars Lee Yi Kyung, Park Se Wan, Eum Moon Suk, and more. 

Adding to the list of his 2022 projects, he also headlined Netflix's "Seoul Vibe" with Yoo Ah In.

As for his upcoming project, Go Kyung Pyo will reprise his role in "D.P 2" with Goo Kyo Hwan and will be reunited with Jung Hae In.
