Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki made a huge buzz in the second half of 2022 for their blockbuster K-dramas "The Glory" and "Reborn Rich."

With this, viewers lauded the former couple for their "genre-switch" as they step out of their comfort zone.

To recall, the two top stars are known for their hit rom-com series such as "Sungkyunkwan Scandal" for Song Joong Ki and "Full House" for Song Hye Kyo as well as delivering top-notch performances in melodrama serries like "That Winter, The Wind Blows" and "Descendants of the Sun" which stars the duo.

Interestingly, for their return to the small screen, Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki stunned fans with a different performances playing the main characters in the revenge series.

As cited by a local media outlet, it seemed like the top stars are breaking away from their usual genre.

For Song Joong Ki, his recent K-drama "Vincenzo" centers around the Italian mafia consigliere, Vincenzo Cassano, who returned to South Korea with a mission of getting hidden gold but was caught up after he becomes involved in a riff against a group of corrupt companies known as Babel.

It was then followed by the revenge drama "Reborn Rich" which focuses on Yoon Hyun Woo being killed and reincarnated as the youngest chaebol Jin Do Joon.

The Song Joong Ki-led K-drama was definitely among the most-watched K-dramas of 2022 leaving the first season with a spectacular viewership rating.

As for Song Joong Ki's ex-wife, Song Hye Kyo, headlining "The Glory" is her first-ever revenge drama where it depicts the grievance of Moon Dong Eun who was victimized by bullies during her high school years, causing her to give up her dreams to become an architect.

However, years later, she returned with plans to get back at the perpetrators who victimized her.

With Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki starring in different genres, the report pointed out that there's no need for the two to have a "genre-switch" but the important thing is to have a story that viewers can relate to or be entertained through the beautiful storyline and amazing cast lineup.

What's Next for Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo After 'Reborn Rich' and 'The Glory'?

With "Reborn Rich" still undecided if the show will return with a new season, Song Joong Ki stars in multiple movies this 2023.

Apart from the long-awaited premiere of "Bogota: City of Lost" the South Korean heartthrob will headline "Hwaran" and "Ro Ki Wa."

As fo Song Hye Kyo, she will reprise her role in "The Glory Season 2" premiering on March 2023 as well as team up with Han So Hee in the thriller mystery series "The Price of Confession."
