Jeon Do Yeon Reveals Interesting Reason Behind Her Character Name in ‘Kill Bok Soon’

Jeon Do Yeon spills more details regarding the hit Netflix movie "Kill Bok Soon."

Debuting on March 31, the action-crime film immediately entered the streaming giant's top 10 TV show list, and even became the No. 1 non-English movie.

Amid the popularity of the movie, the award-winning actress spoke about her character and how they came up with the name Gil Bok Soon.

Jeon Do Yeon's Name in 'Kill Bok Soon' is Inspired By Her Aunt

In an interview, as obtained by a media outlet, the 50-year-old top star shared an interesting story behind the name of her character.

Netflix's "Kill Bok Soon" depicts the story of a hired assassin, who works for an elite killing agency, MK Ent. Besides being one of the sought-after assassins, Gil Bok Soon, played by Jeon Do Yeon, is also a mother to a teenage daughter named Gil Jae Young, portrayed by Kim Shi Ah.

Interestingly, the actress revealed that the lead character's name was originally Gil Jae Young, and Bok Soon was decided in the later part of the movie preparation.

Jeon Do Yeon then shared how the director would use the names of the people around him as a characters in his projects.

As for "Kill Bok Soon," it is based on Jeon Do Yeon's aunt's name.

"He used the names of people in the directing department and friends around him. He substituted the names of people around him for the role," she shared, adding that Bok Soon was the name of her biological aunt.

It was after director Byun Sung Hyun saw the name "Aunt Bok Soon" calling Jeon Do Yeon on her phone and thought it a brilliant idea to use it as the main lead's name.

"At first, I thought the name was old-fashioned, but now it's Gil Bok Soon, so I really liked it," she mentioned, adding that her aunt was also thrilled to see her name in a movie.

Like her character, Jeon Do Yeon is married to businessman husband Kang Si Gyu, who is also a race car driver and 9 years her senior.

In 2007, the couple married at the luxurious Shilla Hotel in Seoul where Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin got married.

Two years later, Jeon Do Yeon gave birth to a daughter, who is now 14 years old.

Jeon Do Yeon Talks About Motherhood

During the interview, the award-winning star also shared her thoughts about motherhood and spoke on what kind of mother she was.

"After becoming a mother, I think raising a child is too scary," she explained adding that there are times when she was anxious while raising her daughter.

However, one of the similarities between her and her character Gil Bok Soon is how they see their kids.

At one point, Jeon Do Yeon thinks that parents underestimate their kids' thinking.

"There are many times when I think that children are wiser than adults," she said.

As seen in the Netflix movie, Gil Bok Soon is having a challenging time dealing with her teenage daughter and at the same time continuing her career as a hired killer.

The challenging situation promoted her not to renew her contract with MT Ent but gets caught up in a difficult situation.
