Moreover, the actor also mentioned his co-star, Kim Sae Ron, and the incident that she had to deal with during the filming.

Woo Do Hwan on Kim Sae Ron's DUI

In an interview with a media outlet, the 30-year-old actor shared his thoughts about his new K-drama and working with director, Jason Kim, who also helmed the hit movies "The Divine Fury" and "Midnight Runners."

Besides the amazing storyline and team-up between him and fellow lead star Lee Sang Yi, one of the things that caught the media's and public's attention was the appearance of Kim Sae Ron in "Bloodhounds."

In the 8-episode series, Woo Do Hwan and Lee Sang Yi played as amateur boxers Kim Gun Woo and Hong Woo Jin, who worked for President Choi (Heo Joon Ho) to secure the safety of his granddaughter Kim Hyun Joo, portrayed by Kim Sae Ron.

However, in the middle of the production, the actress got involved in DUI controversy, causing her to receive criticism from the public.

Due to this, her current and upcoming projects were affected by the issue. Woo Do Hwan said that "everyone was shocked" after hearing the news.

"It was like a bolt from the blue. Director Joo Hwan called me a lot that morning. He said he didn't know what to do about it, and his mind went blank," he recalled, adding that he also "felt upset" since it might also affect "Bloodhounds."

Showing his support to Director Jason Kim, Woo Do Hwan said that he and Lee Sang Yi focused on their training and improving their physical fitness during the period, since they would be doing a lot of action scenes.

"I know better than anyone how much effort he has put into this project. I didn't want to see him collapse," he said, adding, "Since I played the main character, and I had other staff members, Sang Yi-hyung, and other senior actors by my side, I also thought to myself that I should never collapse."

However, the most challenging part of this was with the director. According to Woo Do Hwan, Jason Kim went to Jeju Island and "rewrote the script 7 to 8 times within a month."

Moreover, he also admitted that the incident caused a major blow not just to the director but also to the cast members.

"There were moments when things were so hard and I felt like cursing, but if I were to say it out loud, I think everyone would have felt the same," he shared.

Due to this, the best thing that he thought he could do was "encourage everyone on the set" to do their "best to improve episodes 7 and 8."

'Bloodhounds' Director Reveals Why He Kept Kim Sae Ron as Cast

In a previous interview, the "Bloodhounds" director shared his reasons for keeping Kim Sae Ron as a cast member despite the controversy.

Jason Kim said that they almost completed her scenes when the news broke, and it would be too much for the production if they completely removed her part.

However, to appease the public and viewers not to feel "uncomfortable" seeing her character, they reduced her parts and only showed Kim Hyun Joo until the first half.
