The fantasy romance drama "My Lovely Liar" starring Kim So Hyun and Hwang Minhyun finally made its television debut.

It received great responses from the viewers and even recorded a satisfying rating. However, the same thing can't be said about Hwang Minhyun's performance.

Hwang Minhyun Criticized For 'My Lovely Liar' Debut

On July 31, tvN released its new fantasy romance series "My Lovely Liar" starring Kim So Hyun and Hwang Minhyun.

Since the announcement of its production, many viewers took to social media their excitement for the work and the two actors' first meeting. Anticipation was through the roof.

In the series, Kim So Hyun is a liar hunter who has the ability to detect lies while Hwang Minhyun is a genius musician who hides a dark secret inside him. Due to fate, they get to know one another and eventually fall in love.

In the first episodes of "My Lovely Liar," viewers are given a background story for the two characters who have their own individual dilemmas. Their first encounter was also shown in the pilot.

The series received a high score of 2.5% with its first episode while 3% was recorded during the broadcast of its second episode, which is a great start for the new fantasy drama.

Fans loved the visuals of the work especially the teamwork between Kim So Hyun who returns to the limelight after two years and Hwang Minhyun who takes on his first ever major acting role since debut.

However, Hwang Minhyun is put under the microscope for his "lackluster" performance in the series. Fans claim that he looks "stiff" compared to Kim So Hyun.

"He looks handsome but his acting is alright," one viewer commented. "I hope he improves."

While others are dissatisfied, some fans tried to diffuse the situation, saying that the storyline and characterizations are still "chaotic" as it's only the first two episodes of the show.

Hwang Minhyun's performance was heavily criticized but many are still willing to give the drama a chance. As the story progresses, he is expected to showcase a different side of him as an actor.

What To Expect From 'My Lovely Liar'

In the next episodes, an unpredictable and lovely story of Mok Sol Hee (Kim So Hyun) and Kim Do Ha (Hwang Minhyun) will unfold.

The screenwriter of the series, Seo Jong Eun, aims to share the essence of love in the form of understanding and trusting the heart of the person you love without question.

Director Nam Sung Woo also promises the viewers a fun-filled narrative. In spite of the fantasy genre, he claims that the work will tackle realistic issues which will deliver resonance and comfort to the viewers.
