‘My Dearest’ Episode 1: Namgoong Min, Ahn Eun Jin’s Drama Kick Off With Impressive Rating
Namgoong Min's return to historical K-drama received a huge success as "My Dearest" episode 1, which also stars Ahn Eun Jin, showcased a promising start.
The weekend melodrama began the season with strong viewership.
'My Dearest' Viewership
In a report, "My Dearest" garnered an average nationwide rating of 5.4 percent. Interestingly, Namgoong Min and Ahn Eun Jin's new drama surpassed its predecessor after "Numbers" received an average nationwide rating of 4.7 percent for its pilot episode.
On top of that, the recently premiered period drama scored the highest pilot episode among MBC Friday and Saturday dramas that aired this year.

However, the weekend drama slot showed fierce competition between "My Dearest" and Kim Rae Won's "The First Responders 2" after scoring an average nationwide rating of 7.1 percent, making it the most-watched Friday-Saturday drama of the night.
'My Dearest' Episode 1 Recap
The season starts with a brief background on Lee Jang Hyun (Namgoong Min) and his mysterious personality.
The head investigator was asked to discard the draft that featured a conversation involving the Crown Prince as he talked about the unknown man called Lee Jang Hyun. Moreover, the head investigator's mission was also to locate the whereabouts of the man, as ordered by His Majesty.
As he began his search, he found a woman at the mental institute who seemed to know about Lee Jang Hyun.
In the next scene, Jang Hyun was last spotted at the seashore, covered with blood, while a group of men, holding a weapon saw him as their target.
Harboring a devastated expression, he asked, "Do you hear this? Is this the sound of the flowers?"
15 years later, nobody knew about his whereabouts. At the present time, Lady Yoo Gil Chae, who belongs to a noble family, went to a matchmaking event in hopes of being married to a fine man.
There, she meets Lady Kyung Eun Ae, who seems loved by her peers. In one scene, Yoo Gil Chae had a dream where she followed a red string that led her to a mysterious man. She never saw his face but got curious about his identity.
At the festival, she was swooned over by Young Master Nam Yeon Jun's presence as he made an announcement regarding the war between Great Ming and Great Jin. However, he was interrupted by Lee Jang Hyun, who seemed to come out of nowhere as he talked about his perspective on winning the war.
Of course, most of the people around him find him annoying, except for Lady Yoo Gil Chae.
In the latter part of the episode, Lee Jang Hyun saw Yoo Gil Chae from a distance and was captivated by her beauty. Interestingly, an incident brought them closer. The swing on which Yoo Gil Chae was standing broke, but thankfully she was saved by Jang Hyun right before she hit the surface.
