Space-Themed K-Dramas, Movies That Need to Be on Your Binge-Watch List: ‘The Silent Sea,’ ‘Ask the Stars,’ More
If rom-coms and melodramas are not your thing, then you might enjoy watching sci-fi K-dramas, particularly space-themed series and movies. From it's intriguing plot, heart-stopping scenes, and especially the visuals, there's no doubt that you'll be drawn to every single scene.
Interestingly, Hallyu is introducing different genres to the public, and recently, there's been a number of these types of content on the market-from movies to K-dramas, you name it.
With that said, let's take a look at our recommendations in case you need a little kick of escapism in your life through these space-themed K-dramas and movies.
'The Silent Sea'
Released in December 2021, Netflix dropped all 8 episodes of the thriller mystery K-drama, featuring its star-studded cast.
Headlined by Gong Yoo, Bae Doona, Lee Joon, and more, "The Silent Sea" delivered an amazing story, with viewers praising the series' visual effects.
Produced by Jung Woo Sung along with director Choi Hang Yong of "Sea of Tranquility," where the Netflix series is based, it depicts the journey of a group of astronauts, who are searching for a source of water after the Earth is slowly losing its resources.
Gong Yoo takes on the role of expedition lead Han Yun Jae, while Bae Doona plays scientist Song Ji An, who holds the key to the lunar base' secret.
'Ask the Stars'
If you like "The Silent Sea," be sure to check out the upcoming K-drama "Ask the Stars." However, unlike the Netflix series, the soon-to-be released K-drama, which is also known as "When the Stars Gossip," has a romantic comedy premise.
Headlined by Queen of K-drama rom-com, Gong Hyo Jin and South Korean heartthrob Lee Min Ho, the story will focus on finding love at an unexpected time and place.

In the series, Lee Min Ho plays OB Gyne Kong Ryong, who arrives at the space station as a tourist. This is where he'll meet the Korean-American astronaut, Eve Kim, played by Gong Hyo Jin.
Besides the duo, the "Ask the Stars" cast also includes Oh Jung Se, Lee El, and more.
'The Moon'
From K-dramas, you could also check out space themed movies like the recently released film "The Moon."
Starring EXO's D.O. Kim Hee Ae and Sol Kyung Gu, the film depicts the story of young yet skilled astronaut Hwang Seon Woo, who gets trapped in outer space. Alone in a vast space and thousands of miles away from the Earth, veteran astronaut Kim Jae Guk, is set to rescue him.
"The Moon" officially hit the big screen on August 2 and will continue to air locally and internationally.
Interestingly, this is Doh Kyungsoo's return to the big screen since the 2018 film "Along With the Gods 2: The Last 49 Days."
