Rowoon Receives Flak For Choosing Acting Career

On September 18, the Hallyu scene was shaken when FNC Entertainment announced idol-actor Rowoon's departure from his beloved group SF9.

Since 2016, Rowoon has been a core member of the group. He became the most popular member who raked in thousands of fans around the world, thanks to his popular K-dramas.

All eight members of SF9 renewed their contracts with the company except for Rowoon who will focus on his solo activities including acting, much to fans' disappointment.

Fans accused the idol-actor of having the "actor disease" after Rowoon stated that he plans on taking new challenges as a solo artist and an actor.

There are many idols who left their groups to focus on acting like fromis_9 Gyuri and Oh My Girl Jiho but Rowoon received different reactions due to his negligence.

Fans pointed out that Rowoon has neglected his primary job as idol as he continued to film dramas without interacting with fans and even his members.

He was also absent from recent concerts, meetings and fan signing events even when Chani and Hwiyoung, his fellow members who are also actors, are present.

One fan commented, "I'd be lying if I say I didn't see things coming because I did," pertaining to the actor's decision to leave the group.

Some fans defended Rowoon, saying that he's entitled to his "selfish" decisions as he was doing better as an actor than an idol.

Rowoon apologized to the public and even said that he understood that some fans might hold grudges against him. He didn't mention nor address SF9 in his letter.

He asked his beloved fans for their support not just as Rowoon but as Kim Seok Woo (his real name) who has a lot to learn and to offer.
