Choi Sooyoung's Stage Play Debut Turns Problematic Due to THIS Reason

Choi Sooyoung challenged herself in live acting as she joined the main cast of the ongoing play "Wife."

The show started its run on December 26, and since it is the idol-actress' first attempt in theater play, netizens and fans have shared their reviews about the show.

However, most of the comments pointed out the problem and that is the insufficient management at the venue.

People complained that some members of the audience abruptly took out their cameras in the middle of the performance and kept taking pictures. They expressed their disappointment and dissatisfaction, saying that the staff in the venue did not stop those people who filmed the show.

"I couldn't see and hear anything during the performances because of the people who kept taking photos.

They took like more than 200 pictures throughout the show and it was my worst experience ever. No one stopped them, and no matter how much they complained, the staff stayed silent. Do not manage a performance like this again."

Choi Sooyoung's Fans Accused of Causing Inconvenience

Amid the controversy over the lack of management at the venue, Choi Sooyoung's fans were also accused of causing inconvenience, making the actress's name involved in the issue.

Netizens complained:

• "Choi Sooyoung didn't ask you guys to take photos of her. Why did you do that?"
• "Sooyoung might not be able to concentrate on her performance and avoid the cameras."
• "Because of insufficient management, people are causing inconvenience to everyone."
• "Choi Sooyoung didn't do anything wrong. She's also a victim."

'Wife' Production to Implement New Guidelines

On January 7, the production and management of the play finally released their statement regarding the ongoing issues.

They explained that due to the nature of the performance venue, there are blind spots that cannot be seen directly, and the management was unaware of them.

However, despite what had happened, they ensured to strengthen measures, including increasing internal staffing, to prevent such incidents in the future.

They added:

"We plan to supplement staff on the house side. Since Choi Sooyoung is popular, there are many foreign members in the audience. The existing guidance messages were only in Korean and we plan to add English messages and reinforce announcements during Act 2."

Meanwhile, "Wife" features the story of individual equality and freedom by portraying social perceptions of sexual minorities in four eras. This marks Choi Sooyoung's stage debut, and the run will continue until February 8.
