Online community posts and social media reports earlier this week alleged that background actors, including elderly participants, were left without adequate food or shelter during shoots, some of which took place in cold weather.

One anonymous whistleblower claimed that the production was unwilling to spend money on non-celebrity cast members, resulting in unsafe and inhumane conditions.

Another accusation stated that extras were not allowed to wear thermal clothing or long underwear despite filming in winter temperatures.

There were also reports that some extras were pressured to cut their hair without consent to match the period setting of the drama.

In a statement provided to Sports Seoul on May 28, a representative for the production team addressed the accusations.

"We are currently verifying the facts surrounding the situation," the representative said. "For any confirmed cases, we will conduct a thorough review to ensure such incidents do not happen again."

When Life Gives You Tangerines is a 16-episode drama starring IU as Ae Soon, a rebellious young woman from Jeju, and Park Bo Gum as Gwan Sik, a hopeless romantic.

Netflix has not announced whether any disciplinary or corrective actions will be taken following the internal review.

So far, no formal complaint has been publicly posted, and the accusations are under investigation.
