The poster stands out, as it features the cast, as every character has a unique motivation. Key players are Si-yul (Rowoon), a man who is bent on establishing peace in the chaotic Gyeonggang River; Choi Eun (Shin Ye-eun), a woman who will not give up to adversity; and Jeong-cheon (Park Seo-ham), a crusader.

Other characters add to the suspense, including Moo-deok (Park Ji-hwan), who maintains order in Gyeonggang; Lee Dol-gae (Choi Gwi-hwa), an unbenevolent police officer, and Wang Hae (Kim Dong-won), an enigmatic figure with authoritative presence.

The main trailer expanded on the earlier teaser by revealing the backstory of Si-yul. In one scene, Moo-deok recruits him into the underworld. "Hey, look at your eyes. You're a natural-born gangster. Come under me," he demands, suggesting Si-yul's criminal activities.

A special bond between Si-yul and Jeong-cheon with hints of secrets and past animosity is also featured in the trailer.

At the same time, police officers are depicted suppressing the people by being close to gangsters.

The somber mood is also supported by a warning from Choi Won-young's character, the Great Tiger. "If you rush in rashly, you will be swept away by the backwaters. Moreover, you will have to be prepared to kill. Can you handle it?" he states.

Another statement, "We must find the hand that holds everything and shakes it up. Only by stopping it will this country stand again," indicates a broader conspiracy fueling the story.

Directed by Choo Chang-min, who helmed box office success Masquerade (2012), and written by Chun Sung-il, who last wrote historical drama 14 years ago for Chuno.

The drama has high hopes of delivering an engaging combination of action and political suspense. Starring Rowoon, Shin Ye-eun, Park Seo-ham, and Park Ji-hwan in its cast, it is expected to deliver.

'The Murky Stream' has been selected for the 'On Screen' program of the 30th Busan International Film Festival, further solidifying its position as one of the most highly expected releases of 2025.

The series debuts September 26 on Disney+, releasing three episodes on day of premiere, then two episodes weekly for nine.
