On November 3, during the production press conference held at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, he was joined by co-stars Ji Chang-wook, Do Kyung-soo, Kim Jong-soo, and Jo Yoon-su, along with the series' director, Park Shin-woo, to discuss the highly anticipated series. Per KBZoom, the actor's remarks quickly gained attention for their raw honesty.

Speaking about his character, a wealthy VIP client deeply connected with the show's dark plot, Lee said:

"When I looked at the script I felt like spitting on it. This is the worst character imaginable — every time I read it I got annoyed, I got angry."

He added that he had not focused on the glamour of the role but on the mindset of a fully selfish person.

"Although this is my richest character to date, I wasn't focused on luxury, but rather on portraying someone who looks down on others and carries high self-esteem," he explained.

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, Lee said his commitment to fully portraying his antagonist was to "deliver irritation" to the audience and provoke discomfort and emotion in viewers.

"The Manipulated" tells the story of Tae-joong, a man wrongly imprisoned for a heinous crime, who later learns that Yohan is manipulating his case. The 12-episode series will drop four episodes at first, starting November 5, then release two episodes weekly.

Lee Kwang-soo taking on darker roles is a daring attempt to move away from his comedic and light-hearted image, foreshadowing a new chapter in his acting career. It also shows his growing range and dedication to the craft, as he is not afraid to be uncomfortable for the audience.

With anticipation building for "The Manipulated," both fans and critics will see exactly how Lee's unsettling performance reshapes his on-screen persona.
