KBS 2TV's weekend drama "Last Summer" has seen quite a drop in viewership ratings and reached its all-time low. The drama started with modest performance figures when it premiered on November 1 KST and has been going downhill since then.

According to Allkpop, the series started with a 2.7 percent viewership rating for its first episode, an already underwhelming figure for a prime-time weekend drama, and whose early weeks maintained ratings in the low 2 percent range before decreasing further in recent broadcasts.

The report said, "According to Nielsen Korea, episode 8 of 'Last Summer' recorded 1.6%, breaking its previous low and sinking firmly into the 1% range. With episode 9, it sunk even lower, recording 1.5%."

The decline has sparked speculation that the drama might soon drop into the 0 percent range if the downward trend continues.

As pointed out by Wikitree, "Last Summer" generated early excitement due to its strong cast lineup that includes Lee Jae Wook, Choi Sung Eun, and Kim Gun Woo. Expectations were particularly high during the production presentation. Lee Jae Wook said, "I hope for a 30% viewership rating." Instead, the drama opened far below that target.

He further said, "These days, there are moments when it's hard to know what viewers want. I'd be grateful even for 10%." Given the present figures, even reaching that 10 percent milestone seems unlikely anymore.

The drama has an introspective storyline as the basis. Instead of a light romance, "Last Summer" takes a deep dive into residual feelings, past hurt, and misunderstandings still left unresolved between two people reconnecting from their childhood years through adulthood with fleeting encounters.

The introspective nature appeals to many audiences, though it struggles to attract a broader mainstream spotlight.

As viewership keeps sliding, there is still question whether the series can recover or will continue its nosedive in the weeks to come. For now, "Last Summer" stands as one of the lowest-rated weekend dramas this season.
