After recent media stories stirred up speculation, South Korean actress Kang Sung Yeon has spoken out to clarify her personal life.

On January 12, 2026, Kang posted a long message on Instagram in response to what she called false claims by the Korean press. She included a screenshot of a news story that suggested her recent move was because of worries about her child's safety and feelings.

Kang addressed the story directly, saying, "No, this is not true. I had been considering moving for a long time, and after deep discussions with my family, we made this decision with great difficulty. Gwanggyo and the schools my children attended are not only safe, but truly beautiful and wonderful places to live. I'm already deeply saddened and heartbroken about having to move farther away from a school we'd grown attached to and from my children's beloved friends. On top of that, because of repeatedly incorrect articles, my children and I are now preparing for this move with heavy hearts, while also having to explain ourselves due to misunderstandings we never wanted."

Koreaboo reported that Kang's post aimed to rectify what she perceived as inaccurate stories about her parenting and recent headlines. The actress then discussed an incident involving her son that got media attention in November 2025.

Kang gave more details, saying how the situation affected her. She stated, "The incident in which my child was injured two months ago was not the result of playful roughhousing among friends. It was one-sided harm inflicted upon my child. Through the teacher and my child, I did receive an apology from the other child. However, my feelings remained unresolved because of the phone call I had with the other child's guardian, during which no genuine sincerity was conveyed."

She then talked about how the ongoing coverage and labels affected her and her family. Kang said,"I never imagined that expressing my hurt feelings and anger at the time would continue to be turned into articles for so long, or be so severely distorted. I want to prevent my Instagram, where I place great meaning in sharing small, everyday moments with my family and my parenting journey, from being pieced together according to others' assumptions under labels like 'divorced, single mom,' and then reported as if those narratives were factual."

In the same post, Kang revealed something new about her personal life. She admitted she was divorced but clarified her current relationship.

She said,"And as for me, I am doing very well. Happy and at peace." She later added, "And I'm also doing well, thanks to meeting a truly wonderful person who cherishes and loves my children even more than I do, so you can now put your excessive worries to rest!"

News1 said that Kang Sung Yeon married pianist Kim Ga On in 2012 and has two sons. Her divorce was announced on December 21, 2023, but it was later revealed that the marriage had ended in 2022.
