During an appearance on a food and travel TV show where she was sampling local dishes, she candidly shared her thoughts about how being beauty-conscious had influenced her youth, career, and life. This was very different from how people saw her as a beauty icon.

Hwang was a guest on TV Chosun's "Gourmet Heo Young-man's Baekban Travel" on February 8. She visited restaurants in Anyang and told stories from her past. The show talked about how she became famous right away after her first performance and got the nickname "computer beauty."

Hwang told Naver that the rumors from that time were true: "It's because I'm too pretty," She then explained the situation at the time, saying,"Plastic surgery wasn't developed back then," to stress that her looks were natural.

Hwang also talked about memories from her school days, saying that boys' attention made her feel scared instead of proud. Before she told the stories, she said that the attention often felt too much for her. She said,"I was scared of men," she said. Elaborating further, she added, "There were boys lined up in front of the school, and there were girls there who came to watch. On the way to school, men followed me and I even had to go to the police station," as reported by tvREPORT.

When host Heo Young-man tried to be funny, the conversation got lighter. Hwang said sharply, ""Who said that?" after he joked,"I wasn't that bad," which made everyone on set laugh, according to Naver. Even though she was funny, her comments made it clear how lonely her childhood had been.

Hwang talked about how she was at the top of the advertising world after her first job. When she talked about that time, she remembered how successful her business was by saying, "I've tried every cosmetic brand in the country."

She then compared the stress she was under in the past to how she feels now, saying, "These days, I'm so grateful when people tell me I'm pretty. I feel that a lot," tvREPORT noted. She further joked, "Actually, I am prettier at heart than I am at face."

Hwang also talked about his family. She introduced her daughter, actress and former model Lee Jin-i, and said, "We point out each other's mistakes accurately and generously praise each other for what we do well," according to Naver.

She then told a sad story about her younger brother, Hwang Jeong-eon, who became a painter after a terrible accident. "When I was 29, I got a car accident and injured my neck, and all the nerves below my neck were gone," she said, before expressing pride in his resilience. Speaking about her sister-in-law, Hwang added, "Can a human be like that? An angel, like a gift, came down to our house."
