Guardians of the Galaxy is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, produced by Marvel Studios. It is intended as the tenth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is written and directed by James Gunn. “Guardians of the Galaxy” features a huge cast of super stars, including a recently bulked up, slimmed down Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper (who was recently seen bulked up for “American Sniper”), Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, and Benicio del Toro.

The movie is set in space and is about an American pilot named Peter Quill (Pratt), who finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan. In order to evade Ronan, Quill is forced into a truce with a group of misfits including Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket, Drax the Destroyer, and Groot. When Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the danger it poses to the cosmos, he must rally his ragtag team to save the solar system.

Disney released some cool new stills from the movie today, which shows Chris Pratt, in the part of Peter Quill / Star-Lord wearing his helmet. Disney CEO Bob Iger, during a shareholders conference call, briefly spoke about the potential of Guardians of the Galaxy as a big franchise, saying "This August 1st, we’re looking forward to introducing the world to more fantastic Marvel storytelling, with a great cast of new characters in Guardians of the Galaxy, which we screened last week and we believe it has strong franchise potential."

The film is scheduled to be released on August 1, 2014, and will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D.
