Suspect Held For Spreading Malicious IU Rumors
Earlier this year IU's management agency vowed to catch and prosecute the person spreading malicious rumors about the singer turned actress.
Loen Entertainment announced yesterday that the police have nabbed the person who created and spread rumors about IU's supposed pregnancy and marriage to Super Junior's Eunhyuk.
"The person who spread IU's wedding rumors and other false accusations has been caught and confessed to his crime," tweeted producer Cho Young Chul of Loen Entertainment. "He is being investigated for his malicious hate comments. From now on the malicious hate comments or any kind of defamation of character of our artists will be firmly dealt with.
In May, the agency filed charges with the Seoul Prosecutor's Office, after publicly declaring the rumors "ridiculous fiction."
At that time, they expressed their disappointment that such obviously false rumors could spread so quickly and promised to take strong actions against anyone creating and spreading rumors.
That scandal began in November of 2012 when IU accidentally released a photo of herself and Super Junior's Eunhyuk that looked as if they were sitting on a bed. When netizens wondered if the two were actually in bed together, the actress said the two are merely good friends and they were sitting on a couch together. He was sick and she was nursing him back to health. But that did not stop further rumors from spreading. Netizens seemed to think that she was wearing pajamas that some of her fans had given her.
IU, who recently starred in "You're The Best Lee Soon Shin," publicly apologized to Eunhyk when she appeared on a segment of the SBS show "Incarnation."
"I uploaded the photo by mistake," she said. "And to be honest, I couldn't even blame anyone else because I was the one who uploaded it."
When she realized that the photo had gone viral, IU was sorry but she was not sure what she should do
"I was sorry to so many people," said IU. "I wondered who I should feel the most apologetic to. Should I be sorry to the people who love me? Or should I be sorry to the people who love Eunhyuk?
She wondered if she should apologize or just stay quiet. She need not have worried about apologizing to Eunhyuk since he was not upset with his friend.
Meanwhile the rumors have not slowed down IU's career. Now that her successful drama "You're The Best Lee Soon Shin,' has ended, she is preparing to release her third album, "Modern Times," which includes a few songs with her own original lyrics.
