Kim Nam Gil Wins Daesang for “The Fiery Priest”
Kim Nam Gil is a South Korean Actor, producer, singer, and humanitarian. He became famous for his breakthrough acting in Queen Seondeok in 2009. He is also known for his roles in several successful Korean dramas such as disaster blockbuster, Pandora in 2016, a crime thriller: The shameless in 2015, an adventure drama: The pirates in 2014, Portrait of a Beauty in 2008 and his most recent, crime-comedy tv drama: The Fiery Priest in 2019.
Kim Nam Gil, having topped the SBS Drama Awards for his role in the crime-comedy tv drama: The Fiery Priest in 2019 and Ha Jung Woo, gifted with many abilities in film and one of the highest-grossing actors, wanted to take on a more intriguing and challenging role. Here comes a new mystery drama film called "The Closet" where Actors Kim Nam Gil and Ha Jung Woo work together in it.
The Closet revolves around the troublesome life of a widower, Ha Jung Woo, and his daughter after his wife died because of a tragic accident. They move into a new home and he, later on, discovers that his daughter is missing and a mysterious stranger tells him that his daughter was taken inside the closet.
In an interview, Ha Jung Woo takes on the role of the widower with the knowledge that it is a challenge because he has never portrayed a character that has experiences that he never experienced himself, he still took on the role and asked his married friends for advice about being a parent. Later on, he realized that being a parent is not at all easy and it will always come with imperfections and mistakes the same when he becomes a parent himself. Although, he mentioned that he found it more difficult to produce than act knowing that he is also a producer of the film because he thinks that the film does not only belong to one type of genre but many.
Kim Nam Gil took on the role of the mysterious man in drama because the solid idea and perspective of the director on the film made him want to take on a challenging role that he has never portrayed before. Kim Nam Gil, when he was asked about how well he works with Ha Jung Woo, he could not resist saying that he was very excited to work with him. He also mentioned that the chemistry present in the duo made him act a lot better and smoother. He also mentioned that Ha Jung Woo was humorous and Ha Jung Woo would help each other by exchanging lines so they helped each other with their roles.
He mentioned how he and the director had a special connection back in 2005. They worked together in a film called "The Unforgiven". The director promised Ha Jung Woo that when he directs a film in the future, Ha Jung Woo will be in it. Ha Jung Woo was ecstatic when he received a script after 15 years.
The Closet will be available in theatres in February.
