The court has finally released its ruling, and decided that Goo Hara's inheritance will be split 6:4, rather than 5:5.

The Gwangju Family Court made a decision in regards to the estate of the late Goo Hara and released their judgment on December 21.

Previously, it was reported that Goo Hara's brother, Goo Ho In requested a trial upon receiving reports that their mother is claiming 50 percent of Goo Hara's inheritance as the late singer's biological parent despite abandoning them and giving up parental rights and custody.

The legal representative of Goo Ho In revealed that the court recognized the father's contribution and granted him 20% of shares as he was there for his children and has made efforts to support them. Based on the current law, if a person dies without a spouse or child, their parent will have the right to their inheritance even if they did not personally raise them. This means that a parent who abandoned their children can come back and claim the child's assets after their death.

According to the judgment made by the court, the family of the deceased's contributory portion was determined by 20 percent. Therefore, the inheritance of the late Goo Hara was split into 6:4 her father and brother's side receiving 60 percent and her mother will get 40 percent.

The court is said to have considered major factors such as her father raising Goo Hara as a single parent for 12 years and her mother not able to visit her for the same length of time.

Goo Ho In's legal representative, Noh Jong Eon shared on December 21 that the court's judgment is a step forward under the system of the current law in which the "Goo Hara Act" has not yet passed. It has been known that Goo Ho In is fighting for his late sister's inheritance ever since their mother who abandoned them for the longest time reappeared to claim the late singer's inheritance.

The absent mother claimed that she has the right to get her inheritance as the birth mother despite not being there for them for the past 20 years. When the mother suddenly appeared after Goo Hara's death, she filed a lawsuit demanding her right to 50% of Goo Hara's assets.

During this legal battle between their family, Goo Ho In put all his effort and worked tirelessly with his legal lawyer Noh Jong Eon to create an act to change inheritance laws, known as the "Goo Hara Act". This act is intended to limit the inheritance of a deceased child's property by parents who have neglected their parental duties.

Regarding the court's ruling, Noh Jong Eon commented that it is realistically impossible for the court to judge parents who have abandoned their children. This will be hard unless the "Goo Hara Act" is amended and pushed into law. They are asking everyone for support and show interest in its passing and they will continue to do their best to pass the 'Goo Hara Act'.
