Eugene's Character in 'Penthouse' Speculated to be Transgender + SBS Clarifies
"The Penthouse: War in Life" has been a hot topic this week because of the speculation that Eugene's character as Oh Yoon Hee in the drama is a transgender.

This issue began following episode 19 of the drama, wherein a DNA test result of Oh Yoon Hee was revealed and many eagle-eyed viewers were quick to notice the sex chromosome written in the DNA test result was "XY." As a refresher, the XY chromosome is designated for male individuals.
Viewers were surprised upon noticing this and many argued that Oh Yoon hee is a transgender. This made viewers wonder if this will potentially be another shocking development of the dramatic mystery behind "Penthouse."
Some viewers also noticed and pointed out that in the official poster for "Penthouse," Eugene's character is the only woman standing up alongside the other male characters!
Following this speculation, SBS gave their statement to address such theories and clarified it once and for all.
On December 30, an official representative from the network released their side to clarify the rumors. The representative expressed that what the viewers noticed was an honest prop error. SBS then commented that they will edit the footage accordingly for future VOD services. This is to make sure that the show will not cause viewers further misunderstanding and/or discomfort.
"The Penthouse: War in Life" stars talented actors Lee Ji Ah, Kim So Yeon, Eugene, Um Ki Joon, Park Eun Seok, and Yoon Jong Hoon. It will feature the story of success, ambition, and revenge. The drama is set in a luxury penthouse apartment with 100 floors called the Hera Palace. Its residents have many secrets and hidden ambitions.
Lee Ji Ah stars as Shim Su Ryeon who was born into a rich and wealthy family. She grew up to be an elegant woman in a high-end society. She is known as the queen of the penthouse apartment. She is married to Joo Dan Tae starred by Uhm Ki Joon who is a successful entrepreneur and in real estate.
Kim So Yeon on the other hand, stars as Cheon Seo Jin who also has a wealthy family background. She's an arrogant woman and she's married to Ha Yoon Cheol starred by Yoon Jong Hoon who is a chief surgeon at a general hospital and a very ambitious man.
Lastly, Eugene stars as Oh Yoon Hee was born from poor family background and strives to give her children a successful life. She aims to be part of the upper-class society for the sake of her children.
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that "Penthouse" will have two more seasons! This is good news for the avid fans of the drama!
Every episode of this drama is a must-watch! The way the show ends its episode is full of excitement that it makes us want to see the next episode right away! And since the drama features family and teenage life, this series can target several generations of audiences, from teens to adults. It is no wonder the rating is very high. What a great move by the director and the producers. The screenplay is just excellent!
