Son Sang Yeon has enlisted in the military effective today, November 8.

The news was confirmed by his agency, Awesome ENT through Maeil Business Star Today, stating that the 19-year-old actor begins his duty as a soldier.

"Son Sang Yeon will enter the Nonsan Training Center today (8 tablets). After receiving basic military training, he will serve in the army as an active-duty soldier," said the agency.

With this, his fans sent their well wishes over social media, hoping for him to return safe and healthy.

Moreover, others also noted that they would wait for his comeback.

Son Sang Yeon's Popularity Catapults in 'Racket Boys'

The 19-year-old actor skyrocketed his fame after landing a major role in the sports-themed Kdrama "Racket Boys," where he took the role of Captain Bang Yoon Dam.

He worked alongside the "Move to Heaven" star Tang Jun Sang, Choi Hyun Wook and "When the Camellia Blooms" child star Kim Kang Hoon as his badminton teammates together with Kim Sang Kyung as their coach.

At the time, fans were captivated by the drama's unique storyline given that it was the first-ever badminton-themed Korean series to air, as well as the impressive acting skills from the lead stars, especially Son Sang Yeon.

Most viewers might be familiar with this new heartthrob since he previously appeared in a slew of remarkable Kdramas.

Before starring in "Racket Boys," the 19-year-old actor appeared in "First Love Again," followed by a stint in "Chicago Typewriter" with a star-studded cast featuring Yoo Ah In and more.

In the romance series, he took the role of young Baek Tae Min, played by Kwak Si Yang.

Interestingly, after three years since his debut as an actor, Son Yang Yeon starred in his first-ever lead role in "Triple Fling," but he gained massive popularity for his appearance in "Racket Boys."

Set to be released in January 2022, the new webtoon-based series is under Netflix, which also stars Yoon Chan Young, Park Ji Hoo, Park Solomon and "Hospital Playlist" actress Jo Yi Hyun.
