IU's agency has taken legal steps against those who habitually post malicious comments and invade the privacy of the singer-actress. 

Edam Entertainment, the one who handles the Hallyu star, took to their official website and shared that they have been looking into the matter since 2019. 

IU's Agency Shows No Leniency Against Perpetrators

According to a report, IU's agency has been providing evidence against the perpetrator, who often posts "insults, slander, and malicious posts about IU through information and communication networks such as Internet bulletin boards."

With this, the talent label had filed a complaint through the law firm Shinwon.

Now, Edam Entertainment is serious about the legal actions and revealed that the "court judged that the crime was very delinquent as the perpetrator's crimes were repeated for a considerable period of time.

Through a subpoena investigation, the court served the said person a "suspended sentencing of 8 months in prison" and will have another 8 months if the probation is violated.

In addition, the perpetrator with have "2 years of probation, 180 hours of community service, and 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures on charges of violation of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation) and other charges."

In case the person committed the same act following the court's actions, IU's agency "will continue to take follow-up measures so that more severe punishment can be given."

It comes after Edam Entertainment released an official statement, warning those netizens who post malicious comments about IU. 

As obtained by an outlet, the agency shared that they are taking legal actions after the singer-actress continues to receive "serious level of libel, sexual harassment, and personal attacks occurring through thoughtless malicious comments and the spreading of false rumors."

It continued for years and this 2022, they have the court's decision and will implement it as soon as possible. 

Edam Entertainment also pointed out that they have been receiving reports of false facts and malicious posts in a slew of anonymous communities, adding "including DC Inside."

Per Newsis, IU's agency recognized the seriousness of these acts and has submitted a separate complaint to the investigation agency along with the evidence. 

For years, IU has been a subject of false rumors, attacking the celebrity in a personal way. 

Her agency previously shared that the tip-offs from fans, especially those posts in exclusive online communities, are truly helpful with the case.

Unfortunately, IU is not the only celebrity who has been subjected to false and malicious rumors. 

Recently, Nam Joo Hyuk was targeted by accusations, saying that he was a high school bully, but his agency immediately released a statement and denied the allegations. 

Apart from the "Twenty-Five Twenty-One" star, bride-to-be, Jang Nara was also targeted by false rumors involving her husband to be who is a non-celebrity.
