IU gained praise for playing the role of Soo Young, a single mother in "Broker."

The drama film recently competed at Palm D'Or at Cannes Film festival 2022, where lead star Song Kang Ho made a historic win as the first male Korean who bagged the Best Actor award.

Apart from the film's achievement, the Koreeda Hirokazu-directed movie also received an overwhelming 12-minute long-standing ovation during its premiere.

Interestingly, during the "Broker" cast interview with Wikitree, IU dishes out how she truly feels about her role.

IU Reveals Why She Was Afraid to Play as Soo Young

Viewers often see IU playing the pretty female lead in most of her series.

She played CEO Jang Man Wol in "Hotel Del Luna" and the dual role of Go Ha Jin and Hae Soo in "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo."

Moreover, she also explained that she had been connected with the organization since she was still in her teens, and up to now, she would still visit and become familiar with the kids.

"There is a child at the orphanage that I am especially close with, so I was concerned about her feelings when watching this movie because of the lines I say in the film," she added.

In IU's new movie, Soo Young had no choice but to abandon her newborn and leave her son in a baby box or a temporary shelter for infants to be placed for adoption.

She then met and made a deal with two baby brokers, Sang Hyun and Dong Soo, played by Song Kang Ho and Kang Dong Won.

IU Invited Kids at Orphanage to Watch the 'Broker' Premiere

Although IU was thankful to be part of the movie, she wanted the kids not to get negative implications from her film.

With this, she invited the kids at the orphanage to watch the premiere "Broker" and explained that "the only ones who understand how they feel are the kids themselves."

IU also shared that she "tried to watch the movie from their perspective" and "realized this is not a topic that would hurt them," adding, "I also think their hearts would be much warmer when leaving the theater after watching the film."

"Broker" is one of IU's projects this 2022. Aside from the award-winning movie, she is also headlining a movie with Park Seo Joon, titled "Dream."
