THIS ‘Broker’ Star Receives Luxury Gifts From Co-Star IU on Her Birthday

IU surprised "Broker" co-star Lee Joo Young with special gifts on her birthday.

The actress, whose birthday falls on Valentine's day, February 14, celebrated her 31st birthday with gifts from fans and friends including the idol-singer.

On her Instagram story, Lee Joo Young expressed her gratitude to her supporters and friends for remembering her birthday.

On her special day, fans sent flowers, balloons, and cakes along with a special greeting for the birthday girl.

However, one gift stood out the most which are from nonetheless, IU.

Showing off the present, IU gave Lee Joo Young clothes from the French-Japanese luxury brand Maison Kitsuné.

It includes a stunning black varsity jacket with the famous fox logo.

According to an outlet, the jacket costs around KRW 679,500 or USD 530 while the oversized button-up top retails at KRW 375,000 or USD 292.

With this, IU spent a whopping KRW 1 million, or USD 780 for her present to Lee Joo Young.

To recall, the duo got close after filming the award-winning movie "Broker."

In the drama, directed by the renowned Japanese director Koreeda Hirokazu, IU took on the role of Moon So Young, a single mother who once thought of giving her baby for adoption, while Lee Joo Young played the role of Detective Lee.

Interestingly, Lee Joo Young and IU's friendship got stronger after the "Broker" team was invited to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2022.

During her interview with on Park Ha Sun's CineTown, she shared that she and the actress-singer are roommates during their stay for the festival.

"We shared a lot of conversations. We did not have a lot of scenes where we encountered each other in the film," she said, as obtained by a media outlet.

Lee Joo Young, who is a year older than KU also shared that they plan to travel in Japan.

Moreover, the actress also lauded IU and spoke about the LILAC" singer being a ray of sunshine.

"Just being with her creates an energy that improves my mood," she said.

What's Next for Lee Joo Young this 2023?

Debuting in 2015 for the movie "The Transfer Student," Lee Joo Young played supporting roles in various notable K-dramas, including "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" where she took the role of Lee Sun, Lee Sung Kyung's best friend.

In addition, she also joined the cast of "Something in the Rain," "Itaewon Class" and "The Ghost Detective."

Interestingly, she is set to return to the small screen with the upcoming K-drama "Deal" as Lee Joo Young will have a guest role.

As for the big screen, she will headline "Taste of Horror" and "Green Night" which will be released in 2023.
