"The Heavenly Idol" episode 12 proves that love conquers all, transcending time, fate and divine powers as Kim Min Gyu and Go Bo Gyeol walk to their happy ever after. Here's what happened in the final episode of the fantasy romance drama.

Pontifex Lembrary Sacrifices Himself

Previously, Kim Dal (Go Bo Gyeol) bargained with Yeomra (Jang Young Nam), the Queen of the Underworld, to be reunited with Pontifex Lembrary (Kim Min Gyu).

The high priest also learned that Goddess Redrin (Cha Joo Young), the one he religiously worships, is also the one who ruined his life.

Pontifex Lembrary also realizes that she's the one behind all of the disasters that happen around them by manipulating the Evil One (Lee Jang Woo).

In the final episode of the series, Pontifex Lembrary promises to put an end to Redrin's evil plans with the help of Kim Dal and Queen Yeomra.

However, the only way to take down the evil spirit is to sacrifice his life, putting his relationship with Kim Dal into jeopardy.

Thankfully, Queen Yeomra is able to think for another solution. She suggests separating his divine powers from his own body in order to break the curse; which is created with a part of Redrin's soul.

Pontifex Lembrary & Kim Dal's Memories Get Erased

It is then revealed that the idol Woo Yeon Woo in the real world is his alter ego created by Redrin to harm him, making it easier to steal his divine powers away.

Little do they know that the spell is already broken because of Kim Dal's trust and love, not for anyone but for Pontifex Lembrary himself.

Kim Dal already knew about it all after the Evil One cornered her through his black magic, and tried to kill her to weaken Pontifex Lembrary.

After successfully destroying Redrin's relics and curse, Pontifex Lembrary and Kim Dal forget their memories, including their deep feelings for each other.

Pontifex Lembrary Makes A Tough Decision

Queen Yeomra then imprisons Redrin in Hell, not letting any of her being escape in the modern world.

Pontifex Lembrary gives up being a high priest including his divine powers, and returns to the human world to protect the people from the black magic that seeped through the gates of the Underworld.

He then continues to live as Woo Yeon Woo, the adorable member of Wild Animal, and reunites with Kim Dal.

Although they have known one another in the past, the two act like they have only seen each other for the first time. Thanks to God's magic and blessing, memories flood their minds and hearts.

Woo Yeon Woo Meets Kim Dal

At the end of the episode, Woo Yeon Woo confesses that he returned to the world with the intention to stay forever for Kim Dal.

When he asks if she knows him, Kim Dal answers that he's not Woo Yeon Woo, making him recall the past. The two bask in their warm embrace as a new found love blooms between them.
