'Bloodhounds' Director Faces Health Issues During Preparation for the Netflix Series

In an interview with a Korean media outlet, director and screenwriter Jason Kim shared that he struggled with health issues during the preparation of "Bloodhounds." He admitted that it was "not easy to write an 8-episode K-drama," despite the project being a webtoon adaptation.

Due to this, he had trouble keeping up with his health.

"While writing the 8-episode drama, I got hair loss and shaved my side hair. I had irritable colitis and couldn't even drink coffee, and I was busy looking for a bathroom on set," the director confessed.

Apart from "Bloodhounds," Jason Kim is also the genius behind hit movies such as "The Divine Fury" and "Midnight Runners," which both starred Park Seo Joon.

As for "Bloodhounds," it is his first ever K-drama project.

'Bloodhounds' Director Recalls First Time He Heard Kim Sae Ron's DUI Incident

As the interview continued, Jason Kim is also asked about "Bloodhounds" cast member Kim Sae Ron.

Back in May 2022, the former teen star got involved in a car crash incident and it was found out that she was driving under the influence. As a result, the issue affected her current and upcoming projects, including "Bloodhounds."

According to the director, he was stunned upon hearing the news.

"I froze when I saw (Kim Sae Ron's) article," he said, adding, "I thought a lot about how to take responsibility when things that I couldn't choose happened, but it didn't work out well."

At the height of Kim Sae Ron's DUI issue, the production had nearly finished her part.

Director Jason Kim said that the best he could do was "minimize viewers' inconvenience" and trim down some of her parts.

"With the thought that the story should not be broken, I did my best to minimize Kim Sae Ron's amount and improve the quality," he explained, adding that he could not totally remove her character since it is vital to the storyline.

Kim Sae Ron Scheduled to Appear Until Finale Says 'Bloodhounds' Director

The "Bloodhounds" director revealed that Kim Sae Ron's character, Kim Hyun Joo, is supposed to be present until the finale episode.

However, they shortened her screentime and made her appear only in the first half. The second half featured rookie actress Jung Da Eun, who played Mr. Oh's granddaughter and archer, Oh Da Min.

According to the "Bloodhounds" director, the production was halted and the story was rewritten "from beginning to end."

"It was possible to minimize costs and damages by writing about 80 pages within a month. The main actors also had a lot of pressure because they had their next work," director Jason Kim explained.

Despite the changes, "Bloodhounds" is a huge success and managed to enter Netflix's top 10 TV shows worldwide after its global premiere.
