Netflix Hints at Additional ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Cast After Being Questioned for Lack of Female Characters

Netflix teased fans with an update on "Squid Game" season 2 after the public raised questions regarding the lack of female characters.

During the TUDUM event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the streaming giant officially announced the cast lineup for the much-anticipated season. The Korean thriller series will feature returning and newcomers, adding more excitement to viewers.

'Squid Game' Season 2 Cast

Through a teaser, the "Squid Game" season 2 cast was introduced, as well as the returning lineup, such as Lee Jung Jae, who is Seong Gi Hoon and was the winner of the previous challenge. In addition, Lee Byung Hun, is the frontman, will also be joining the sequel.

"Squid Game" season 2 also sees the return of Wi Ha Joon, who is police officer Hwang Jun Ho, while Gong Yoo's mysterious character, the salesman from the train station, will also participate once again.

Apart from the original cast members, the second season also welcomes new cast members.

Following the rumors regarding Im Siwan as the upcoming season's lead star, Netflix officially confirmed that the singer-actor will be part of the thriller K-drama.

Moreover, Kang Ha Neul, the lead star of "When the Camellia Blooms," and Park Sung Hoon from "The Glory," are joining season 2.

Lastly, Yang Dong Geun becomes officially part of the "Squid Game" season 2 cast.

While some of the viewers seemed excited for the amazing cast lineup, others pointed out that the casting lacked diversity, like rookie actors, female characters, and veterans.

Over social media, Netflix was flooded with questions about the absence of female characters, highlighting that they "couldn't find even a single actress in 'Squid Game' season 2."

Unlike the previous season, Jung Ho Yeon, who played as Kang Sae Byeok, was among the lead stars, while Kim Joo Ryoung, who played as No. 212 Han Mi Nyeo, and Lee Yoo Mi, as player No. 240, received favorable responses from the public for their amazing performances.

In addition, the first season of "Squid Game" also introduced a mix of rookies and veterans, including Wi Ha Joon, Oh Young Soo, and more.

However, the upcoming sequel received a backlash; thus, Netflix hinted at more surprises.

Netflix Says 'Additional Cast Will Be Announced Soon'

According to outlets, the streaming giant assured the public that they would provide additional casting details soon.

As mentioned by a news portal, a representative from Netflix did an interview with Hangyoreh, and said, "It is still unknown whether any actresses will appear in 'Squid Game 2.'" But they added that "an additional cast will be announced soon."

What to Expect in 'Squid Game' Season 2

A year after Netflix aired the Korean thriller series, director Hwang Dong Hyuk hinted at a new villain for "Squid Game" season 2.

While the first season featured the creepy doll named Young Hee, the upcoming season will introduce her boyfriend, Chul Su, who will bring tension to the death-defying games.

Moreover, according to Screen Rant, the director previously mentioned that the sequel will tell the story of the Frontman, who was revealed to be a previous winner of the game.
