Following his military discharge, Jang Ki Yong is back in K-dramaland with an upcoming romance-fantasy series, "Although I Am Not a Hero."

After being selected to play the lead role, together with Chun Woo Hee, the South Korean heartthrob is gearing for the filming of his first K-drama after his military activities.

Jang Ki Yong's K-Drama 'Although I Am Not a Hero' To Start Filming in August

In an exclusive report, the upcoming K-drama will be directed by Jo Hyun Taek, the genius behind the hit series "SKY Castle," "Maids," and "Snowdrop." In addition, "Introverted Boss" screenwriter Joo Hwa Mi is in charge of the script.

"Although I Am Not a Hero" will have its first day of shooting scheduled for August.

As for the release date, officials have yet to confirm the target premiere, but it will make its debut on JTBC.

On the other hand, as Jang Ki Yong and Chun Woo Hee confirmed their appearance, the 30-year-old actor will transform into Hee Kyung Joo, who loses his superpowers because of a mysterious disease. 

Meanwhile, Chun Woo Hee plays as Hee Kyung Joo's life-saver, Do Da Hae. It was after he gets caught up in a fire that they manage to rescue him just in the nick of time.

Besides the characters' budding romance, "Although I Am Not a Hero" will also depict a beautiful story about life and family.

What's New With Jang Ki Yong?

The upcoming romance-fantasy K-drama is Jang Ki Yong's first on-screen project since his military discharge.

To recall, he enlisted in August 2021 after completing "Now We Are Breaking Up" with Song Hye Kyo.

After about 1 year and 6 months of service, he was officially discharged from the 15th Infantry Division Army in February 2022.

Following this, he made his Instagram update, thanking fans for their support.

"I learned a lot with your support. Made it back in good health. I'll come to you soon with a good work," he wrote.

Since then, Jang Ki Yong has been sharing a glimpse of his work on social media.

Among his first works is a photo shoot and interview with Vogue Korea.

In addition, Jang Ki Yong also renewed his contract with YG Entertainment.

"As a companion and partner of Jang Ki Yong, we promise to provide our full support and gear up to aid his return as an actor," the label shared, as obtained by a media outlet.

On the other hand, viewers are definitely delighted to see the South Korean heartthrob with a new character, especially his onscreen chemistry with Chun Woo Hee.
