'Physical: 100' Participant Faces 7 Years of Jail Time & 80 Hours of Education

A month after the Netflix reality competition aired its finale, the show's alum made headlines after he got investigated by the police for suspicion of assulting his girlfriend. 

Following a series of investigations, the said "Physical: 100" alum, who is also a former national team rugby player, was sentenced to 7 years in prison for sexual assault.

According to a news outlet, the Seoul Central District Court ruled that the accused will not only face years of jail time but will also "undergo 80 hours of sexual education."

As mentioned by the news portal, the prosecution wanted the athlete turned reality star to face a 12-year sentence. However, the court only granted him 7 years plus the 80 hours of education that he is forced to attend.

With this, the judge pointed out that the accused also "showed unpredictable behavior, such as drinking alcohol and hitting the head enough to bleed."

"The crime of the accused falls under so-called dating violence, and since the crime is committed in a state where complex emotions explode, the result is often serious," the judge added, adding that "strict action is required."

'Physical: 100' Controversy: Who is the Contestant Behind the Assault Issue

To recall, the investigation started in February 2022 after a woman, who was the former athlete's girlfriend, called the Gangnam Police Station, saying that the person had been hit by her boyfriend.

Following the distressed call, the police immediately arrived at the scene and escorted the "Physical: 100" contestant to the station for further questioning.

During the investigation, he was accused of threatening the woman with a knife, destroying the victim's property, and illegally filming her.

Due to this, he was indicted on charges of rape and physical assault.

At the height of the issue, netizens speculated that the person behind the issue was Jang Seong Min. He is a rugby player and part of the South Korean national team that competed at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.

During his stint in "Physical: 100," he showed great strength, which made him the team Leader in Quest 2, also known as the "moving challenge."

Moreover, he also advanced to the first round after beating sireum player and "goddess on the sand" Jang Min Ji.

On the other hand, as suspicions grew regarding the incident, Jang Seong Min deactivated his social media accounts, including Instagram.

As for Netflix, the streaming giant released an official statement saying that they will "look into the details of the incident."
