Im Siwan Reveals Losing Extreme Weight to Perfect His Character in ‘Road to Boston’

Im Siwan talks about his preparation for the movie "Road to Boston" as he portrays Korean marathon runner Suh Yun Bok, who made history at the 1947 Boston Marathon.

Taking on the role of professional athlete, the ZE:A member showed tremendous passion for his second movie in 2023 after shedding weight to perfect his character.

"Road to Boston" depicts the story of Korean runners who joined the prestigious Boston Marathon. This is also the first time that a South Korean flag has been seen at an international race since the country's liberation in 1947.

While Im Siwan plays the unsung hero Suh Yun Bok, co-star Ha Jung Woo portrays marathon legend Sohn Kee Chung.

At the "Road to Boston" press conference, cast members and the director spoke about their experience filming the movie.

As for Im Siwan, he went to greater lengths to perfectly portray the role.

According to a media outlet, Im Siwan was not just prepared for the role emotionally but also externally, saying that he spent most of his time on "diet and exercise."

The actor also shared having a strict meal plan to make sure he was in shape before filming.

"I always had to eat chicken breast and salad as a diet from the time I started filming until the end, and I also had to exercise every day," he said, adding that to maintain his physique and not lose his muscles, he had to do workouts in between cuts.

One of the effects of this is losing huge body fat, which he first experienced in the movie.

"I measured my body fat using InBody and it came out to be 6%. It wasn't my goal, but as I tried to become like teacher Seo Yun-bok, I saw the figure of 6% for the first time in my life, and I think it was amazing," he said.

Moreover, apart from diet and exercise, he also had to train like a true professional marathon and underwent professional training two to three months before filming began.

Ha Jung Woo and Im Siwan's movie "Road to Boston," which was directed by Kang Je Gyu of "Salut Ha Jung Woo and Im Siwan's movie "Road to Boston," which was directed by Kang Je Gyu of "Salut D'Amour," is scheduled to hit the big screen on September 27.

Im Siwan Joins as Lead Star in 'Squid Game' Season 2

One of the highly anticipated projects of Im Siwan is the upcoming "Squid Game" season 2.

The idol singer is among the new cast members joining the much-awaited sequel, along with BIGBANG's T.O.P., Kang Ha Neul, Park Gyu Young, and more.

Although Netflix and drama officials are tight-lipped about the actor's role, reports say that they are planning to release the sequel in the second half of 2024.
