Song Joong Ki Decides Not to Cover His Scar in ‘Hopeless’: ‘For the first time, I revealed it as is’

Song Joong Ki showed off his imperfections in the upcoming movie "Hopeless." In an interview conducted by a local media outlet, the actor talks about his experience filming the movie and the changes he made for the role.

Directed by Kim Chang Hoon, Song Joong Ki's movie is a thriller-crime drama that depicts the story of 17-year-old Yeon Gyu, played by Hong Xa Bin.

He wanted to get out of his hellish life and move away from his abusive stepfather. With this goal of his, he saves up in hopes of moving to the Netherlands with his mother. However, he unexpectedly meets a gang boss named Chi Geon, played by Song Joong Ki.

Born and raised in the town, he is a mid-level boss in a criminal organization who recruits Yeon Gyu to be part of their group.

As seen in teasers, his role is far different from his previous character. According to the actor, he and the team embraced his imperfections and used them as part of his character.

Here's Why Song Joong Ki Revealed His Real Scar for 'Hopeless'

One of the things that Song Joong Ki mentioned during the interview was the story about his scar.

Based on the teaser, his character, Chi Geon, has a noticeable facial scar on his left cheek. According to the actor, it was real.

Sharing more of it, the top star said that the team decided to keep it as part of the character.

He said that he actually has a scar on his face and covers it up every time he has projects.

"But this time the makeup team came up with the idea, saying, 'Joong ki, let's reveal this," he recalled, as obtained by a media outlet, adding, "For the first time, I revealed it as is."

The actor also added that the makeup team tried to make it more visible by highlighting the scar.

What to Expect in Song Joong Ki's Movie 'Hopeless'?

The upcoming film, also known as "Hwaran," was initially premiered at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival after it got invited to the Un Certain Regard section.

Following the positive feedback from the festival, it sparked anticipation from the public, hence why viewers are looking forward to watching it in theaters.

Meanwhile, "Hopeless," which stars Song Joong Ki, Hong Xa Bin, and BIBI, is slated to hit the screen on October 11 with a run time of 2 hours and 13 minutes.

It can be recalled that the movie made headlines after officials confirmed that the top star had accepted the lead role without receiving any appearance fee.

According to Song Joong Ki, the reason behind it is that believe in and trust the director and the project's capabilities.
