Netflix's upcoming series "Mr. Plankton," starring Woo Do Hwan, gets embroiled in a controversy ahead of debut. The drama's production team immediately released a statement regarding the issue.

Netflix's 'Mr Plankton' Involved in Illegal Waste Dumping

While in preparation for its release, Netflix's original series, "Mr. Plankton" was involved in illegal waste dumping issue.

On October 16, allegations arose that the drama's team illegally dumped garbage after filming in Jeju Island. According to the source, the production team discarded food containers, cups, cigarette butts, and even paper with the crew's personal information and shooting locations in them.

In addition, aside from the illegal throwing of trash, the "Mr. Plankton" team is also being suspected of causing inconvenience to the residents of the Huam-dong area.

A netizen from the said place said that during the shoot, the staff parked in residents' parking spaces and blocked the road.

HighZium Studio Releases Statement

As the controversy escalated, the drama's production company, HighZium Studio, released a statement addressing the issue.

"On October 15, we conducted the film from morning to afternoon at Hwasun Golden Sand Beach. Since the shooting was completed after sunset, a cleaning plan was scheduled for that day and the next morning."

The team further explained that upon confirmation, the production crew paid more attention to the cleanup the next morning. The production company stated that they will be more careful during the filming process in the future.

This is not the first time that a K-drama production was reported for causing inconvenience to netizens.

In April, Netflix's "You Have Done Well" and TVING's "Death's Game" were also embroiled in controversy for blocking tourist spots and using offensive language.

What We Know So Far About Woo Do Hwan's 'Mr. Plankton'

Netflix's original series "Mr. Plankton" will star four notable actors including Woo Do Hwan, Lee Yoo Mi, Oh Jung Se, and Kim Hae Sook. The rom-com drama features the story of people who can't blend in or connect with anyone just like plankton.

The story will focus on the journey of Hae Jo, a man who was born by mistake, as he is accompanied by Jae Mi, a woman who has been in a miserable life.

"Mr. Plankton" is penned by "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" writer Jo Yong, and Director Hong Jong Chan, the creative behind the series "Juvenile Justice" and "Dear My Friends."
