The 2023 SBS Drama Awards will undergo major changes amid Lee Sun Kyun's death.

According to a news outlet, the broadcast network decided to break its tradition by changing the date of the annual ceremony.

SBS Drama Awards Breaks Tradition After 24 Years

For the first time in 24 years, the SBS Drama Awards, usually held on the last day of the year, will have a new schedule to give way to Lee Sun Kyun's funeral.

Initially, the broadcast network arranged it on the last day of the year to commemorate all the dramas and actors who showed great work by delivering outstanding performances throughout the year.

However, SBS decided to change the date from December 31 to December 29.

On the other hand, the network has not revealed the specific reason behind it, but the public speculates that it's on behalf of Lee Sun Kyun's passing.

The actor, who died on December 27, appeared in various SBS dramas like "Payback: Money and Power," which was his last series, as well as the 2008 romance drama "My Sweet Seoul."

Lee Sun Kyun Cause of Death Revealed

The public was surprised after news outlets confirmed the passing of South Korean star Lee Sun Kyun.

The 48-year-old actor, who rose to international fame after joining the cast of the Oscar-winning film "Parasite," was found dead in the parking lot in Seoul.

At the time, outlets revealed that the actor's body was found by the police inside a parked vehicle in central Seoul around 11 a.m.

According to a news portal, Seongbuk police station's chief detective, Jeon Yu Deung, said that they started the investigation after Lee Sun Kyun's manager reported that the actor was missing.

In addition, Lee Sun Kyun's wife, actress Jeon Hye Jin, also found what appeared to be a suicide note.

As for the actor's passing, his agency, Hodu&U Entertainment, released a statement announcing that the funeral would be held privately and attended by his family, relatives, and colleagues.

Lee Sun Kyun was best known for his role as Park Dong Ik, the wealthy patriarch, in the Oscar-winning movie "Parasite."

Other than this, he also appeared in the hit rom-com "Pasta" along with Gong Hyo Jin, and the iconic K-drama "Coffee Prince" with Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun Hye.

He is survived by his wife, Jeon Hye Jin, who he married in 2009 after seven years of dating. Lee Sun Kyun and the "Not Others" star have two sons born on November 25, 2009, and August 9, 2011.

Recently, the 48-year-old actor made headlines after being involved in a drug scandal. Due to this, he faced hefty penalties for breaching endorsement deals because of the controversy.
