Song Joong Ki’s Wife, Son ‘Influenced’ His Acting in ‘My Name is Loh KiWan’ Says Director

"My Name is Loh KiWan" director Kim Hee Jin continues to praise Song Joong Ki for his exceptional performance in his newest movie. 

Based on the 2019 novel "I Met Loh KiWan," the film focuses on the journey of a North Korean defector who traveled to Belgium alone as a refugee.

In the movie, the top star once again wowed viewers with his versatility as an actor, showcasing his amazing acting spectrum. 

'My Name is Loh KiWan' Director Talks About Song Joong Ki's Driving Force

In an interview with director Kim Hee Jin, she dishes on her thoughts about her directorial debut. 

Praising the "My Name is Loh KiWan '' star, the director mentioned Song Joong Ki's wife and son as his driving force to perfectly portray the character. 

"I think Song Joong-ki's marriage and the birth of his son actually influenced his performance in the movie positively," she said, as obtained by a media outlet. 

Adding to this, the "My Name is Loh KiWan" director recalls how the actor filmed the movie with stress-free emotion. 

"I think Song Joong-ki's condition and mind were very relaxed, and in that state, I felt like he could do even more."

In his response, the top star shared that his wife was with him throughout the shoot.

Song Joong Ki's wife, Katy Louise Saunders, was pregnant at the time with their first baby. 

"From the perspective of the team members, they felt comfortable with her being by my side all the time. I actually felt the same," the actor added. 

The newly released movie is the first time that Kim Hee Jin and Song Joong Ki have worked together. 

In a separate interview, the director revealed that she waited 7 years for the top star to accept the offer. 

Initially, Song Joong Ki was selected to headline "My Name is Loh KiWan" in 2017, but at the time, the actor rejected the role due to some reasons. 

Director Kim Hee Jin went on and revealed that she never wanted any actor to play the role except for the 38-year-old star and waited for him years before he said yes.

Lo and behold, "My Name is Loh KiWan" ranked first in 3 countries on the Netflix global top 10 movies. This includes Vietnam, South Korea, and Indonesia, as cited by a streaming aggregator service, Flix Patrol.

As fans wait for Song Joong Ki to return to K-drama, the top star is booked and busy with multiple films in the past years. Among his newest movies is "My Name is Loh KiWan."

Joined by Choi Sung Eun as Marie, who played a significant role in the movie, Song Joong Ki was also reunited with the "Vincenzo" and "Reborn Rich" actors Jo Han Chul in the novel-based movie. 

Officially released worldwide on March 1, 2024, viewers get to watch Song Joong Ki's movie exclusively on Netflix.
