Kim Soo Hyun’s Fee Per ‘Queen of Tears’ Episode Reportedly Costs $500K + Drama Team Responds

Is It True? Kim Soo Hyun's Appearance Fee Per 'Queen of Tears' Episode Costs 500K USD

Amid the global success that tvN's "Queen of Tears" is amassing, it is no surprise that the public gets curious about interesting stories about its lead stars. 

As it stars Kim Soo Hyun, Kim Ji Won, Park Sung Hoon, Kwak Dong Yeon, and more, the general public's attention is on them. 

In March, the news about Kim Soo Hyun's talent fee began to appear again on multiple media platforms, making netizens curious about his recent appearance fee. It is known that Kim Soo Hyun is one of the highest-paid actors in South Korea, making him cost millions in every project that he does.

According to reports, in his comeback drama "Queen of Tears" the actor is rumored to have an appearance fee of 500K USD (800 million krw) per episode. Interestingly, on March 26, the drama's team finally addressed the news. 

'Queen of Tears' Team Denies Kim Soo Hyun's Rumored Drama Fees

The production team of the weekend series explained, "It is not true that Kim Soo Hyun's appearance fee per episode is 800 million won (500K USD). It is an amount far from 800 million won."

To recall, a media outlet reported before that Kim Soo Hyun's appearance fee for the 16-episode series was 9.5 million USD (12.8 billion won), an amount equivalent to one-third of the production cost of about 30 million USD (40 billion won).

In particular, Kim Soo Hyun's appearance fee is the highest among domestic label works except for "Squid Game." The actor was previously known to receive an appearance fee of 373K USD (500 million won) per drama episode, but for his new work, he rumoredly received a large appearance fee of 240K USD (300 million won).

However, the drama team ended the speculations saying that there was a large difference between the actual appearance fee in the rumored amount that has been circulating online. 

Amid the controversy over large appearance fees, Kim Soo Hyun's professional appearance fees are still attracting attention. 

'Queen of Tears' Attracts More Viewers 

On the other hand, "Queen of Tears" continues to amass high ratings. Its recent episode broke past viewership records. It scored an average of 14.1 percent in episode 6. 

In addition, "Queen of Tears" ranked first in the TV-OTT drama tropicality category for three consecutive weeks already.
