South Korean singer and actress Jo Yu Ri, formerly of the girl group IZ*ONE, publicly denied rumors that she was paid approximately $3 million for her role in Netflix's global hit series "Squid Game."

Speaking candidly during her guest appearance on MBC's variety program "Point of Omniscient Interference" on Friday, Jo called the reports "completely untrue."
"There was an article that claimed I received 4.2 billion KRW (around $3 million) just for my appearance.
The article specifically mentioned only my name," Jo said with a laugh. "It's absolutely untrue. The actual amount is way, way lower."
Jo, 22, has been enjoying rising international fame after starring in both Season 2 and the upcoming Season 3 of the survival thriller.
Host Jun Hyun Moo noted that "Squid Game" had ranked No. 1 in 93 countries, calling it "one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences."
"My Instagram followers skyrocketed," Jo shared. "Before filming, I had about 1.6 million, and now it's around 7.61 million.
In the past, most of the comments were from Korean fans, but now I'm seeing so many from international fans too."
Comedian Yang Se-hyung addressed the widely circulated rumor regarding Jo's reported paycheck, prompting her frank response.
Her denial drew laughter from both the cast and viewers.
Jo's no-nonsense explanation has won high praise online, and fans praised her for her honesty when so much public interest is centred on her career earnings.
Since she turned from music to acting, Jo has become more visible in high-profile projects like "Squid Game" and has increased her international popularity.
Netflix representatives declined to comment on individual salaries for the "Squid Game" cast.
Jo debuted as part of IZ*ONE in 2018 following the "Produce 48" survival series, later pursuing a solo career after the group's disbandment in 2021.
