According to OSEN, the trailer sets a tense atmosphere, with the series promising a complex crime-action narrative interwoven with deception, pursuit, and betrayal. The project is helmed by director Jin Hyuk and written by Kim Hyung-jun, both known for their previous work in large-scale dramas and crime thrillers.

The series will be released simultaneously in Korea, the Asia-Pacific, Japan, and other regions through the global streaming partners. It is about an extreme struggle between criminals intent on financial gain and equally determined opponents who want to steal the money they print using ultra-precise counterfeit "Supernotes."

The trailer's opening line, which states the narration, "That guy showed up again." The line foregrounds the return of Yoo Ji-tae's character, Jay, a criminal mastermind responsible for engineering the "Casino Dealer Counterfeiting Case."

Sports Chosun wrote that Yoo Ji-tae's playing of the mysterious character "Codename J" heightens the expectations, especially since the actor is getting ready to start a highly dangerous plan with counterfeit banknotes. Lee Min-jung plays Han Soo-hyun, the designer of banknotes whose life is turned upside down by an incident in the past, which pushes her into the world of revenge and danger.

The article then shows Jay inviting Soo-hyun: "Have a good time with the counterfeit banknote of his dreams, the Super Note." To be sure, their collaboration produces 500 billion won, or $340 million, in fake currency, hinting at the explosive conflict to come as competing motives begin fracturing their partnership.

The preview also shows a very crucial moment when Han Soo-hyun has a confrontation with Jay in a crisis. The caption says, "For some reason, Jay's cold-blooded rejection is captivating."

As the fight intensifies, Cha Ki-tae, played by Lee Beom-soo, joins the chase in order to find out the source of the counterfeit currency operation. The tagline of this movie is "The 'super' crime of the worst guys begins," which means danger escalates as alliances collapse and deception deepens.

The TVING original "Villains" will make its world premiere on December 18, and simultaneously launch in 17 Asia-Pacific regions via HBO Max and in Japan through Disney+ Japan.
