‘The Thieves’ Breaks 7,270,000 In Two Weeks

Will 'The Thieves' be able to capture 10,000,000 viewers?

Popular film 'The Thieves,' currently holding the record for best opening score for a Korean film and beating previous record holder 'The Host,' is on the brink of overtaking 'The Host' once again. According to the standings of ticket sales calculated by the Korean Film Commission on the 7th, 'The Thieves' has managed to bring in 7,272,140 viewers.

In just the short time period of two days over the weekend on the 4th and 5th, 1,450,000 more people watched the film. 'The Thieves' even surpassed Hollywood blockbuster 'The Avengers' by 210,000 viewers.

It is a huge accomplishment for a film to reach 10,000,000 people. The films that have previously broke 10,000,000 viewers include 2009's 'Avatar' with 13,300,000, 2006's 'The Host' with 13,010,000, 2005's 'The King and the Clown' with 12,300,000, 2004's 'Taegukgi' with 11,740,000, 2009's 'Haeundae' with 11,320,000, and 2003's 'Silmido' with 11,080,000.

On the 7th, 32.6% of audiences reserved tickets for 'The Thieves,' 22.9% for 'The Dark Knight Rises,' 17.1% for 'I Am a King,' and 11.3% for 'The Grand Heist.'

'The Thieves,' directed by Choi Dong Hoon, is the crime action film starring Kim Yoon Suk as Korean thief Macao Park, who offers a sweet deal to his team of Korean and Chinese thieves played by Kim Hye Soo, Lee Jung Jae, Jun Ji Hyun, Kim Soo Hyun, Kim Hae Sook, Oh Dal Soo, Im Dal Hwa, Lee Shim Kyul, and Derek Tsang.
