“Space Sweepers” Starring Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri is Set For Release This Summer

Take a sneak peek of the jaw-dropping trailer for Korea's much-anticipated movie "Space Sweepers," starring Song Joong Ki, Kim Tae Ri, Jin Seon Kyu, and Yu Hae Jin!

"Space Sweepers" will be Korea's first sci-fi blockbuster set in the outer space. Its exceptional cinematography and never-before-seen quality will be highlighted in this movie. Not only famous stars will be participating, but it's director Jo Sung Hee who will be helming the movie. He was the one who directed the box-office hit "A Werewolf Boy," also starring Song Joong Ki along with Park Bo Young.

Due to severe environmental pollution, people had to leave Earth and collecting garbage from space is one way they could make ends meet. "Space Sweepers" is set in the year 2092, where the crew of Spaceship, called Victory - consisting of Captain Jang (Kim Tae Ri), Pilot Tae Ho (Song Joong Ki), Tiger Park (Jin Seon Kyu), and Robot Eobdong (Yu Hae Jin) - travels through space to collect junk so they can make a living.

During this era, space will be full of floating scraps from abandoned satellites as well as unoccupied spaceships. To be able to defeat other collectors from other countries, they used their expertise to speed up the spacecraft.

They soon got involved in a dangerous business deal when they accidentally came across a humanoid robot Dorothy, a weapon of mass destruction.

This upcoming film marks as the reunion of Director Jo Sung Hee and Song Joong Ki after they last worked together in "A Werewolf Boy." In this movie that was set in the 70s, Soong Joong Ki was a wild boy who was taught by a beautiful teenage girl (Park Bo Young) how to behave like a human being.

In "Space Sweepers," Song Joong Ki is a pilot. He can be seen wearing socks with holes while flying the spacecraft, yet he smiles confidently. This will be Song Joong Ki's comeback movie after three years, and a lot of his fans are waiting for his return.

"The Handmaiden" star Kim Tae Ri will portray Captain. Her sophisticated and intimidating appearance suits her well as she holds her laser gun. "Space Sweepers" will also be the first out of two sci-fi projects for her. The other one is a two-part saga "Alien," which will be directed by another blockbuster director, Choi Dong-hoon.

Jin Seon Kyu, who starred in the action comedy film "Extreme Job," will play as Tiger Park, an engineer covered in tattoos. His unusual character can be seen pushing the lever of the ship with all his strength, he looks fierce and sweaty as most of his scenes will be in the mechanical part of the ship.

The voice behind their crew robot, Eobdong, will be Yu Hae Jin from the film "Intimate Strangers." Because of his speed, it glides through space like a whistle and it plays an important role in successfully harboring the junk first. This is also the first where a Korean film uses robotic motion capture in recording actions of actors for animations or visual effects.

Huayi Tencent, a Chinese multinational entertainment company, invested $4.2 million in the film, in May of 2019. And the visual effects company Dexter Studios was hired for the movie.

"Space Sweepers" will be released sometime this summer.
