The first Korean mermaid character

"The Idle Mermaid" (2014)

Aileen (Jo Bo Ah) is a mermaid princess who fell in love with a human celebrity chef. She kissed and took Kwon Shi Kyung's (Song Jae Rim) mobile phone when he fell next to the Han River while recording a TV show. She pursued to become a human to be with him.

The drama was shortened to 10 episodes instead of 14. Jun Ji Hyun was the second mermaid character in the hit drama "Legend of the Blue Sea."

The first Korean outer-space science-fiction film

"Space Sweepers" (2020)

"Space Sweepers" is about a crew inside a ship who collects space junks in other space and finds a humanoid robot. Their ordeal started when they knew that the robot is to be a weapon of mass destruction and they got involved with a complicated business deal.

This is anticipated to be a big blockbuster movie with stars Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri, with a whooping budget of production reached to estimated 21.2 million dollars.

The first Korean film that won Oscar awards

"Parasite" (2019)

This film is the story of the Kim family who tried to survive the plight of life difficulties in the hands of the well-off Park family.

The movie won several international awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature film at the 92nd Academy awards. It is the highest-grossing South Korean film with an estimated 257 million dollars.

The first Korean vampire character

"Thirst" (2009)

Sang Hyun (Song Kang Ho) fell in love with his friend's wife. He became a vampire after a failed medical experiment. His life changed after receiving a blood transfusion and a rapid recovery over his illness, which news reached the entire village.

The film is based on the 1867 novel Therese Raquin by Emilie Zola. The movie bagged the Jury prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
